I have been renting a duplex in MH for about 2 years (Guy st), and I can concur that a mortgage on my place would be in far excess of the rent. Having moved from TX, it is a strange concept that a property would cost more $$ to own than rent. It is tragic that these homes will never be within my reach, even as a professional. Without inheriting the property or a large sum of money, I don’t know how ANYONE could afford these prices.

Love my sweet neighborhood so much and don’t want to leave, but know I won’t be buying- so I will rent. My guy works at SPAWAR and can walk to work.
We think we will continue to rent here and just plop some cash down on a little fixer upper cabin in Idyllwild or Julian in about five years or so- that’s the dream now. We just want a simple life. We’ll see how it turns out π
