Give her a break. powayseller haters told her to setup her own forum so she can say and do whatever she wants. Happy now? Her departure is a big loss to Piggington, in my view.
Her website is her castle; she can do whatever she wants. You don’t have to visit if you don’t like it.
Education is not free. Private, for-profit diploma mills like National University and University of Phoenix charge a lot of money for education, some of it subsidized by our tax dollars.
Our own Professor Piggington used to charge for premium content also.
April 1, 2007 at 9:13 PM #48900sdrealtorParticipantUsed to charge for premium content is the operative phrase. I think the greatest education will be received by PS. The education of what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur.
April 1, 2007 at 10:45 PM #48902Diego MamaniParticipantPS will notice that there’s money to be made from ads and links (as opposed to subscriptions), but first she needs to generate traffic. Traffic can be gained by providing lots of free content and promoting lively discussions. She did a great job fostering dialogue (and arguments!) on this site, hopefully she or someone else can achieve the same for her website.
Ben Jones spends hours gathering info, quotes, and links to articles, which he then posts online for free. His readers then engage in lively discussions. People stop by to read the news, then stay for the forum postings. I’m sure that’s a lot of visitors, some of whom click on the ads, while others make direct donations. So, the lesson here is that we need to create traffic (the horse) before revenue (the cart) comes in.
Unfortunately, the RE bubble web market may be saturated at this late time in the game. But the same thing was said of the PC market when Mike Dell started, and he’s a billionaire now.
April 2, 2007 at 7:16 AM #48905CritterParticipantWhy is it when people disagree with the way someone runs their business (or their opinions) they are labeled a “Hater?” That seems extreme to me. It’s a quick way for the “hatee” to dismiss the opinions of many by calling them names instead of seeing the grain of truth which may exist inside their opinion.
The flip side of love is not hate – it is indifference. You have to expend a lot of energy to actively hate someone, and I doubt most here feel that way towards PS.
April 2, 2007 at 7:30 AM #48906carlislematthewParticipantIt’s simple economics. The number of bubble blogs has gone way past fundamentals and MUST REVERT TO THE MEAN! There WILL be a 50% drop in the number of bubble sites by Fall 2007. If you disagree with me, you’re delusional, stupid or both.

LOL. Priceless.
April 2, 2007 at 9:14 AM #48921anxvarietyParticipantI’ve noticed that anytime I’ve had a hobby.. I would either, or someone would encourage me to try and monetize it.. it seems like it’s a common part of a hobby/business evolution… By not subscribing you’re making a vote that will help in determining what the market things about the subscription service.. that’s how she or anyone would measure it, not by any blowback.. I dont think at least.
For Rich it was a quick experiment as he’s probably very adaptive and flexible in his perpsecitves, and I’m sure how it is now makes more sense from a his perspective… I would think the advantages would be – he’s not on the hook to create content on a schedule which is probably good now that he’s got bigger fish to fry, and additionally any content that he creates can be alive for a lifetime generating PPC/advertising revenue.
I just quit my job recently… so keep your eyes peeled for a blog(nonprofit/non-ad) of my own.. I just bought the new redesigned and incredible Tundra, it will be the powerplant for the trailer that I’m going to buy/travel/live in for the next while.. I am considering documenting that sort of lifestyle since I expect that it will be more common for folks working/contracting in California that realize that owning a house doesn’t make them any more normal or cool. This is still just an idea so it might not happen.. either way, any mention of the blog here would be reciprocated by immediately visible links and massive street cred to piggington.
April 2, 2007 at 10:18 AM #48923PerryChaseParticipantBeing adaptable is the key.
Yahoo used to charge for anything more than basic email. Now they give it away for free with unlimited storage.
AOL used to charge for content. Now it’s all free.
Their business models were appropriate and made sense at one point. They now need to adapt to the market. Businesses that catch the wave will thrive.

I think that the people who told powayseller to take a hike and not post here anymore qualify as haters. Those same people told her to set up her own site so she’s free to post whatever she wants. Isn’t that what she did?
April 2, 2007 at 12:30 PM #48943AnonymousGuestcm, to paraphrase my children’s favorite philosopher, Homer Simpson: That’s not funny, that’s hilarious!
April 2, 2007 at 12:36 PM #48944Cow_tippingParticipantCorrect carlisleMattew and JJGittes.
The latest bubble is in … housing bubble blogs … I expect them to mirror the bubble itself with a delay … as the bubble dies, the blogs will die 12-18 months later.
Cool.
Cow_tipping.April 2, 2007 at 2:38 PM #48953Diego MamaniParticipantGood point Cow_t. The proper jargon to use is “THE NUMBER OF RE BUBBLE BLOGS IS A LAGGING INDICATOR!!!!”
April 2, 2007 at 5:56 PM #48978vegasrenterParticipantcarlislematthew, your “tribute” is so on-the-mark, it’s eerie.
April 2, 2007 at 10:02 PM #49003daveljParticipantRegarding PS’s website I defer to the zen riddle: If a tree falls in the woods and there’s no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?
April 7, 2007 at 7:40 PM #49463carlislematthewParticipantRegarding PS’s website I defer to the zen riddle: If a tree falls in the woods and there’s no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?
Of *course* it makes a sound. What a silly question… Only those that don’t understand sound, air pressure waves, and the human ear would think otherwise. You should be ashamed of the quality of your riddle. Shame on you!!!
Anyway, would it be rude to post a picture of a rolling tumbleweed on her blog/forums?
