afx: My dad was from Chicago and my mom was from Detroit, so I had the benefit growing up of listening to the whole ‘Hawks v. ‘Wings rivalry and all that entailed.
My family hails from the Midwest, so all my cousins were hockey freaks and my growing up in the SF/Bay Area never got me into the whole hockey mindset. I do like the Sharks, though I concur with a buddy of mine who claims the best hockey is played in the NCAA.

December 29, 2008 at 5:57 PM #321087pk92108ParticipantAllan – I doubt that the Raiders would bring on Parcells….No way will Al Davis want to share power with someone who has the stature like Bill Parcells….He is mainly appeasing his fan base to seem “proactive” in turning the franchise around…
same old song with old man Davis

I’m hoping that after a good decade or two we’ll have a decent rivalry going between the Ducks and the Kings. Us Kings fans are certainly pissed that the Ducks got the Cup after a quick 13 years of Disney-marketing-tool existence compared to our nearly 40 years of lackluster yet occasionally hopeful hockey. I’m not so sure that hockey will ever make it here or in places like Phoenix or Florida. It seems as if every hockey fan I know is from either the midwest or the northeast. I have yet to meet a native SoCal hockey fan such as myself.
I haven’t caught much NCAA hockey, it just doesn’t exist down here. I have been enjoying the World Juniors over the holidays though.
