Sd, you know the rule, it applies to sports, stocks, women and anything where there is a wager or a potential downside. Listen to me, then do the opposite. I’m proud of you for remembering the rule.
The chargers are missing one thing, Marty and crew. 12 teams enter the playoffs, one wins the Superbowl. The guy brings his teams to playoffs more often than not and the Browns, Cheifs and Chargers all fell part after he left, his players and some bad luck lost the game last year and now we find out the the Patriots probably cheated. So now we have Norv, great, great coordinator, weak head coach and he has no control over Rivers who was melting down and needs to be coached.
Now let’s not throw in the towel on the season, the Patriots are just better than everyone else, Chicago is one of the best in the NFC, a top 5 in the power polls, has a wicked defense and the Chargers beat them. It took a little luck and a little time but they beat them. The Packers are on fire, hell the browns could probably take the Chargers but neither has the talent of the Chargers, this is what saddens me about watching Norv, no matter how good the steak is, you still need a good chef. Norv was an afterthought in a disaster engineered by A.J. Smith, they need to start scouting a head coach for next year. The best coach without a job is Bill Cowher and as a close personal friend and former understudy of Marty’s, he probably won’t even take A.J.’s phone calls. Our only hope is that Crennel turns around the Browns this season so they don’t offer Cowher the job in Cleveland (where he played and was an assistant coach of marty’s)and S.D. can beg him to come here. What is nuts is that the Chargers will probably miss the playoffs and Norv will keep his job but Marty goes 14-2 and is fired, if the Pack beats the Chargers next week we would be lucky to have a second round playoff loss.
If the patsies roll up the colts on Nov 4th, I’ll crown them. Did you see the interview of Goodell during halftime, if the league finds out belichick was intercepting the opposing teams headset transmissions, he will be lucky if Roger only bans him for life and doesn’t have him beheaded during the hearing. The only coaching job he will see is Vick and Pacmans prison team. Collinsworth, the best analyst in the business had the line of the night “If the commish has to see Bill in his office again it will be to say goodbye.”

I do have to agree with you about Norverd… or Norvell… or whatever the hell his name is short for because his parents better not have named that kid Norv… (btw you do know that bud blacks name is Harry)
Anyways not a bad call and I cannot disagree on those points. Darn right about our talent and I do hope that we use this as a tool and find out we are looking up and not down at the elite teams in the AFC. I like Cowher but no coach of quality/strong personality will ever come to SD with AJ in place. Not to say AJ is bad as the dude can draft and he seems to have an eye for talent… Yet make no mistake he will be the biggest fish in the pond for better or for worse… and yeah Cowher will come as he is an old buddy of Marty so he would tell AJ to stick it if AJ did call him.
As for women… get yourself a dog or borrow one of your buddies dogs and drag your ass to a dog park or the beach… we had the kids at dog beach in rivermouth today (off of via de la valle)… About 20 feet behind us was a tasty little nugget all alone with her dog… Dragging yourself to new developments in Temecula that you know will depreciate another 30% is not worth your time…load up the sled and put an hour on the road and test the waters my friend… that… or do what I did and hit match.com…next thing ya know you will have a wife and a few kids and go wtf happened here! hehehehe

Being a lifelong Raiders fan, I loathe the Patsies, but would be the first to admit that they are an excellent team. Add in Welker and Moss, and you have the elements to go deep into the playoffs.
As far as Turner goes: When I saw that Spanos had hired him, I had to laugh. My God, is there some conspiracy at Chargers Central to avoid winning the Superbowl? Let’s not even talk about the decision to let Boss Ross go in favor of keeping Bobby Beathard. Yeah, that Bobby Beathard. The guy who fell in love with Ryan Leaf.
The Chargers are a hugely talented team. The Patriots are a hugely talented organization. That difference will become more and more apparent as the season wears on.
September 17, 2007 at 7:35 AM #84792Alex_angelParticipantLetting Brees go to keep Philip “I like to throw the ball way too high and to defenders” Rivers was a HUGE mistake. The play calling was horrible. You are down 31-14, force a turn-over with 15 minutes left and do what? Pass on 1st, get sacked, fumble but recover, get sacked on second, and force a pass to LT on third and LT just couldn’t give a shit. Norv is trying to use LT as a second or third option. The play calling is horrible. I knew that letting Donnie Edwards go was going to hurt the D but not this much. They cannot guard anyone in the secondary, but there was some shotting Ref calls. The phantom hit to the head on brady, the bad defensive interference calls were horrible. But this pass on first down was bad calls. Sure LT got stopped on 3 and 1 but later in the game they decided to pass on 3 and 1 and Rivers almost throws another int. WTF? YOU DO NOT LOSE CONFIDENCE IN LT. IF HE MAKES A MISTAKE YOU DON’T STOP GIVING HIM THE BALL!!!!!! You do not I repeat do not stop giving LT the ball no matter how bad the game is. You pretty much play into the hands of the other team. What bad football.
September 17, 2007 at 8:47 AM #84801SD RealtorParticipantYes Allan I agree… the hoody is a sharp coach… never a dispute there. He also seems to reload on staff as well… and with Welker and Moss, and lest we forget Stallworth the Patsies are scary good….
I was working yesterday but I heard cbass clanked one off the posts yesterday but nonetheless the silver and blackshould win a few more games this year then last… the chargers… well like I said, let’s see if they use this as a wakeup call… I haven’t read the paper yet so I am hopeful that olivea is not to dinged up… I know phillips went out for awhile yesterday as well…

As many faults as Schottenheimer had, I think Norv Turner was (and is) a bad choice. He is a very capable Offensive Coordinator. As a head coach, however…
I think an even bigger loss was Cam Cameron. The offensive play calling was just that: Offensive.
If the Chargers are going to compete with the Colts and the Patriots, their level of competitive zeal better come up a couple of orders of magnitude.
My season is pretty well set: I am a Notre Dame fan in college ball, and a Raiders fan. You might not be the only one in for a long season.
September 17, 2007 at 10:11 AM #84812crParticipantYou gotta wonder how it would have gone if Marty was still around. Last year at play-offs Chargers had it in the bag, and gave it away. This year… well, not even close.
September 17, 2007 at 11:12 AM #84821johnnyreParticipantShort and sweet, I think AJ has to stroke his ego a little too much. He fired Marty for personal reasons, not job performance. AJ is a great scouter no doubt about it but He needs to think and use his head and not his FEELINGS like some chick. He screwed up. Now after this season his job could be on the line……………

I agree with you on this one johnnyman.. good call. I think Marty would have made the right changes to go all the way with the bolts this season had he been given the chance .. oh well. It’s still early in the season and hope Rivers can work the kinks out.
