ParticipantThanks for comments…..just doing some preliminary planning. Not ready to take the leap. I’m gonna try vacations in bunch of locales in coming years…perhaps scoping some real estate on the side. I do love old classic cabins, but after my last house an older fixer upper, I’m more partial to a small, simple, efficient, more modern design.
Eavesdropper, thanks for good advice. I too like the mountains of Va, I grew up in DC area and spent lots of time camping along appalachian trail, skyline drive. Awesome in the Fall.

ParticipantMonthy Review: We have been here 1 month now and it is outstanding. A few new things living in the mountains, we drive to the post office (about 3 miles) to get our mail, we have a propane tank for gas, I am having a chord of wood delivered this weekend, I start a fire in the fireplace in the morning and before dinner, we have a family of racoons living somewhere and they run on the roof at night, I bought tire chains, the hiking is incredible, quading is fantastic, I have a celler that I turned into a “Man Cave” and the Italian owners of the house are fermenting about 15 gallons of wine in, I met a guy named “Wolf” on my daily walks (he looked like it), no fast food within 15 miles (I lost the 5 lbs I have been trying to lose for years), I read at night instead of TV, fewer sports channels. The scenry is like you are in another country and this house is fantastic.
