ParticipantThe Padres started mailing it in after falling apart in June. Last year’s run was held together by the bullpen with duct tape and paper clips. The margin for error was slim.
However, as a Dodgers fan I would not be so smug. They are underperforming as well.
The Dodgers had the 3rd highest payroll at the beginning of the season. Add to that several free players, like Manny, who is being paid by the Red Sox, and the amount of money being paid to current Dodgers payer is the highest in Major League Baseball.
You would think that with talent like that they could manage to have better than the 13th best record in the Majors.
The Dodgers simply suck less than the rest of the NL West, including the Padres.
Enjoy this fleeting moment of sucking less than the other team in the most pathetic Division of Baseball.
FWIW here’s a Piggingtonian style assessment ..
Dodgers have paid an average $1.4 M per win.
Compare that to the Cubs at 1.2M per win.
Or the lowly Padres at 1.21 per win.AND that’s based on Opening Day roster salaries.
Go CUBS !
