sdrealtor-do you wish you had plucked that little guy up when it was small? I planted a queen palm at my last place,I think it was 6ft tall at the time, after 5 years I think it got to 8-9ft. So things don’t always grow the way you think they will. I’m trying to decide/find the perfect tree to plant in the yard of our new place. I know what I don’t want-anything that drops leaves, eucalyptus, pine needles,if anybody has suggestions I’m open. I’m thinking king palm. Anybody try planting coconut trees here in southern california, seems like they should thrive but I don’t see them here.

February 6, 2010 at 5:56 PM #510100AecetiaParticipantCheck with the International Palm society about the coconut palms:http://www.palms.org/. I have both a king and queens and prefer the king because it self cleans and once the queens get large, they cost more to maintain.

February 6, 2010 at 10:30 PM #510165temeculaguyParticipantI like the look and the shade of foxtail palms. Instead of millions of little seeds, it has fruit. Still a pain but probably not too bad.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wodyetia
The two places that grow them happen to be nearby, one in jamul and one in deluz.
They are more expensive but require no trimming. I think I am going with them when I re-do the yards.
But Aecitia knows more about trees than I do, she probably has a foxtail. I was going to ask her when it came time to pick trees.February 6, 2010 at 10:30 PM #510312temeculaguyParticipantI like the look and the shade of foxtail palms.
