Does the USA actually suck and we just don’t see it because we live in the middle of its total suckiness?
Issue 1: handguns are illegal in Canada. Advantage, Canada
Issue 2. We see lots of young women walking around at nite not afraid looking. We asked them if they actually feel ok at nite, and some said yes. Where is this in the USA?
Issue 3. Half the people in Vancouver grew up not speaking English as first language. When did the USA go from being a vibrant nation of immigrants to a country filled with assholes?
Issue 4: the bikeability of this city is outstanding. Motorists seem like…they’re not insanely hostile.
Issue 5: health care?
Issue 6. The Univ of British Columbia is gorgeous and is practically free for residents. Wtf happened to the uc system. I’m paying a fucking fortune.
Issue 7. Downtown SD smells like a wall of dog piss. Downtown Vancouver does not.
I’m not saying the USA doesn’t have a few good points, but, like, as an actual place to live, what if it actually…..sucks?
Some internet research supports the proposition that Canadians are objectively nicer. But could just be a result of not living in a deranged fucked up country?

Once you’ve bought a place and moved up, report back after Winter so we can see how well this opinion holds up. No? Still good? Try again after summer. It broke 100 this year and if you think AC is scarce in SD, boy have I got news for you!
Canada isn’t better or worse than the US. It’s just a little different.
scaredy, there are lots of great places in the world, and Canada is definitely one. I doubt if you’d ever want to give up San Diego completely. I know we never will–too much to love here–but extended visits, or second homes, etc. in other locations is something we enjoy–and should definitely be on your to do list for the future. Variety is the spice of life, and I think you would thrive on that variety.

I live in Temecula . We broke 100 all summer and I don’t have ac.
Vancouver seasonal lows are actually comparable to Temecula, not NYC.

If you were living in Canada, then the dollar being strong doesn’t matter.
Go for a walk around the lakes in Whistler. Gorgeous paths near lake. No fences. No dogs barking wildly.
Go for a walk in the USA. No beach access. Private property. Fences. Dogs that want to eat you. Owners armed to the fucking teeth watching Fox fucking news. Calling the cops because why the fuck are you walking around, near their houses, anyway. Very suspicious.
I think I might actually need to retire out of the USA.
Out in Temecula wine country there was a push to create a system of bike trails. My neighbors were like, fuck that, private property, brings in riff raff and burglars.
