Cannot argue with the postings on the thread. Nothing hard to figure out, create light and space and all the usual stuff you here. I would not worry about clothes but removing much of the personalization of the home is not a bad idea. You do not have to strip it bare nor do you have to remove every single picture and item. Just go with a less is more approach.
You want buyers to look at your home, not look at pictures of your family. You are going to have to pack sooner or later anyways right?
Like Jim said in the other post, the first week or two is really a key period in the listing. You dont have to vacate, just keep it clean and uncluttered.

February 2, 2009 at 6:13 PM #340501ScarlettParticipantOh, and one more thing – declutter and remove most of the stuff and stage your house BEFORE you take the pics/video tour that end up on the MLS/realtor.com/sdlookup. Especially remove the little thingies on shelves and counters and tables that are very distracting. Like SDR said, less is more.

Move about 90% of your stuff to storage. Have the barest minimum to “stage” the house, and live in it as a staged house.
All personal photos, kids toys, any art work that isn’t 100% bland… take it out. Take out 1/2 of the furniture to make it look more spacious. Make sure nothing is on the kitchen counter. Even hide the toothbrushes and other stuff that ends up on bathroom counters.
It’s a pain, but it’s worked for friends.[/quote]
People should learn to live like that all the time!
Imagine all the money saved from living a simple life with little possessions. An uncluttered house means a broad, open mind. Clutter means complication and difficulty of character.
