Add a ‘PL’ to your ‘AA’ and what do you get? AAPL. They’re gonna hurt during this recession, but they are well positioned for when it’s over. They have 25 bil in cash reserves, zero debt, and are still firing on all cylinders. I’m still reeeealllly long AAPL and keep nibbling on the way down.

October 25, 2008 at 8:40 AM #292964jpinpbParticipantI’ve held on to my AAPL while everyone is selling off. I bought a few shares of AAPL when I was in school in 2000 for $22. (gosh I was I bought more back then, but on budget and couldn’t)
Since then the stock had split, so I sold some, then bought some back when they were down. Last December they were at $200, so I sold some.
I am very surprised they are half what they were last year and I am worried about the recession not leaving play money for goodies that Apple is offering. That’s still a luxury item and in economic times, that’s what takes a hit.
How long are you going? This recession will last a very long time. People are pulling out b/c it’ll be a while before it recovers. Likely still a ways to go down.
What is their P/E ratio now? I haven’t even checked.

October 25, 2008 at 11:10 AM #293062anParticipantAAPL’s current P/E is 18 and RIMM P/E right now is 14.66. If you take RIMM’s P/E and apply to AAPL, AAPL should be around $78/share. However, since we don’t know how deep this recession will be, we don’t really know AAPL’s near term future. They do only sell “luxury” product and those are usually the stuff people cut out first. There’s also a lot of rumor about the health of Steve Jobs. Would AAPL still be attractive w/out Jobs?
