He still lost his job. Hope someone here gets to buy the pig’s house at foreclosure auction after he and his family end up on the street.
August 2, 2012 at 9:14 AM #749374jpinpbParticipantWhat is sad is he acted w/in the policies that they had at the school. But at the same time, they were peaceful protestors sitting on the floor. How could officers feel threatened by that? There is this little thing called First Amendment rights which allows people to peacefully assemble. It would be one thing if there was a riot. Then it would be an unlawful assembly. Sitting on the floor does not justify being pepper sprayed. It was wrong.
August 2, 2012 at 9:34 AM #749377spdrunParticipant“Just following orders” is a crappy excuse. My only qualm is that, really, the whole UC Davis PD should be kicked out onto the street. The money saved by not paying those parasites should go towards lowering tuition.
August 2, 2012 at 9:47 AM #749379jpinpbParticipantOh, I agree that following orders is no excuse. Just b/c it was w/in policy to do, does NOT justify doing it. Add a little common sense in there. There is no justification for pepper-spraying them while they are just sitting peacefully. Period. The Chancellor should have resigned. Go to the top. The buck stops there.
August 2, 2012 at 2:14 PM #749397CoronitaParticipantMeh… OWS my ass…
Rising tuition costs??? How about getting a degree that can pay for the cost after you’re done…maybe….Oh that’s right, folks no longer want to do the dirty work anymore..Those “jobs” are grunt work and should be done overseas….August 2, 2012 at 2:29 PM #749400jpinpbParticipantConsidering tuition costs have tripled since the days when I went to school, can’t say that I blame them. My brother has a master’s degree in international business and was looking for work for 2 years. Said the hardest job he ever had was looking for work. Demoralizing to the ego. And all the while, he has student loans to pay.
I would not be so quick to condemn them. Different times for them now. My cousin has been doing IT work for a good long time. I wouldn’t consider it grunt work. He has taken a huge pay cut and every day worries about his job being sent overseas.
Come on, flu. I expect better of you and I hope you are kidding. Getting a degree in these times does not guarantee a job, much less a job that will pay for the cost of the degree.
August 2, 2012 at 2:32 PM #749401jpinpbParticipantI’ll also add that a girl friend of mine has a degree in finance from SDSU. She was lucky enough to have gotten in many, many years ago before the huge increase in tuition. She has been looking for work for over a year and is being told she is overqualified. Luckily for her, her loans are paid off.
This is a tough economy and I feel for students trying to improve their lives by getting an overpriced education that will not assure them a job to pay off the loans.
August 2, 2012 at 2:40 PM #749402The-ShovelerParticipantTuition Free Universities in Germany/ Norway.
If I was of college age I would try to emigrate to Norway or Germany..
Universities there are supposed to be “Tuition Free ” by law.
Don’t know if they have student loans for the living expenses like Beer,oh maybe someplace to sleep as well.

OWS are a bunch of asses … for not organizing enough to paralyze the corrupt shithole known as DC into something resembling Paris in summer.
Their gripes are legitimate — ever seen what has happened to education and research (other than military crap) since the 1990s? Mostly due to many trillion $ being spend on unwinnable wars.
America ought to be ashamed of itself.
August 2, 2012 at 2:50 PM #749404jpinpbParticipant^ Agreed. Wish Rich would have a like button on Pigginton 😉

August 2, 2012 at 8:57 PM #749416CoronitaParticipantI’m sure it has nothing to do with UC pensions…

But hey, it’s always wall street’s fault.
August 2, 2012 at 9:30 PM #749417jpinpbParticipantHow about exorbitant salaries. New Chancellor of UCSD is,looking at almost 400k a year. UCSD Chancellor
August 2, 2012 at 11:37 PM #749425paramountParticipantI’m not surprised, and as I’ve stated in the past expect more and more aggression from the gov’t towards the general public as the economy restructures.
