I’m beginning to wonder if Howard Stern is right – the office will be terrible for Trump’s mental health. Stern submits that Trump has a strong desire to be liked and all of the darts that are shot at the President – any president, R or D – will send him tumbling over the edge.
What Stern says kind of makes sense. It would explain the ultra bully persona and love of rallies surrounded by his faithful and adoring fans.

I agree. I just hope that if he snaps completely, he doesn’t take the country (or the world) down with him.
February 16, 2017 at 8:35 PM #805641zkParticipanttrump’s pick for national security adviser turned down the job. His announcement said it was basically for personal reasons, but apparently he wasn’t guaranteed the freedom from political interference that he insisted on.

You gotta figure that trump’s not going to budge on that, and whoever ends up taking the job will be nothing but a stooge. I hope I’m wrong, because that would be exceedingly dangerous. Especially with Bannon completely running the show.

He is used to people trying to guess what he wants and bending over to fulfill his overt and covert desires.
He must be feeling very disrespected now when he is being challenged by all kinds of people. Not just wealthy competitors, but also disabled journalists, poorly educated whites, even illegal immigrants.
You get to be the president and all of the sudden everybody feels free to argue with you. Maddening.February 17, 2017 at 9:48 AM #805654FlyerInHiGuestI am supposed to smell the roses more… but it’s too interesting I can’t turn away.
Like Trump says, forget about second hand reports, just watch Trump.
I watched the whole news conference while making dinner las night. OMG, all the stuff Trump says. it’s incredible! The guy is a whackjob.
Some of the things i remember:
Trump said that he “fired” (he used the word) Mike Flynn. There are conflicting accounts from the White House that Flynn tendered his resignation.Trump lied about his electoral college margin again. He was even corrected by a reporter.
The White House is a “fine tuned machine” according to Trump.
Trump a lot of time to watch TV apparently. He must be bored.
Trump said that Obamacare repeal will be submitted in March, before tax reform.
He say if there’ll be a response to recent Russian provocations.
Trump is still obsessed with Hillary. He mentioned her many times.
Trump actually gave Obama a break. He said that the country was divided long before Obama.
Oh, I really miss Professor Obama. I enjoyed his detailed answers and nuances.

There was a point – I think it was late Dec or early Jan – where he started acting Presidential. I started to believe he had just been putting on an act during the campaign.
Well, it didn’t take long for the real Donald to re-appear.
Does anybody know what the procedure is to declare a president mentally unfit? I know we aren’t there yet, but I am really concerned it may come down to that. We’re only a month into his term and look what has transpired so far.
On a side note, one of my Republican friends posted today a photo of Lucy from “I love Lucy” making one of her classic stunned faces with the caption “the moment you realize this IS your circus and those ARE your monkeys”. It may be starting to dawn on some folks what a mistake they’ve made…

There was a point where many of us were optimistic that he would understand what being president meant. If he has ever acted like a president it must have been a very fleeting moment. I admit that I can’t take my eyes of this shitshow. And I never saw that moment.

There is none. There is impeachment and there are elections.
One thing that amazed me during the election is that many folks just brushed off his eccentric behavior saying that “checks and balances” will keep him in line. It’s true that there are checks and balances but they are blunt instruments and meant to be a last resort. Even if 99% of Americans decide that he’s unfit there’s nothing that can happen until the next election. To be impeached he has to commit a crime, which means the best-case scenario is that he commits an impeachable offense that doesn’t do too much harm. And then the Republican congress would have to actually go through with it…
Or maybe he’ll suddenly grow the fuck up. Some are still hoping for that, but any mature adult knows that 180 degree changes in character don’t happen to 70 year-old men.
In the meantime he’s the most powerful person on earth, one of the most powerful that has ever lived. And there’s no undo button.

I hope that’s what he meant. Most trump supporters, from what I can gather, seem to think he’s doing a great job. Are you sure he didn’t think all the people who are terrified and up in arms about trump were the monkeys? Was he/she a trump supporter?
February 17, 2017 at 8:50 PM #805675FlyerInHiGuestzk, I see the same among Trump supporters. They see nothing wrong. And, just like Trump, they keep on blaming the dishonest press.
I never liked Trump and watched the whole presser to educate myself. Just watch what Trump says without media analysis and decide for yourself!
Svelte said something about education… I used to also think that education eventually wins over. I’m kinda depressed about our country. Are we really the first among nations like we claim to be? Are our people that dumb?

February 17, 2017 at 11:18 PM #805677FlyerInHiGuestAccording to the 25th amendment, the VP and a majority of the cabinet can declare the president unfit

February 18, 2017 at 3:44 PM #805682FlyerInHiGuestApparenltly white working class men are suffering “death of despair” en masse. No wonder they don’t give a shit and voted for Trump.
So rather than helping with good health care, and looking at what went wrong with our system, Trump is blaming Mexicans and the inner cities for the optic epidemic (listen to press conference where he claims that drugs are cheaper than candy bars). So much easier and convenient. In the meantime, people can cure themselves of addiction.
February 20, 2017 at 2:54 PM #805693zkParticipant“[Congressional republicans] need Trump to pass their agenda of rewriting the tax code in favor of the rich and of gutting regulations that protect the public and the planet—an agenda that a majority of Americans never supported”
http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/02/27/holding-trump-accountable
Trump didn’t run on the above. The people didn’t vote for the above. Yet the above seems to be on the agenda. Why? Is it because trump actually doesn’t give a damn about anything but his own glorification, and therefore will let congress do what they want while he yells and struts and says he’s great? Not a rhetorical question. I’m not saying that’s why. I’m trying to understand why.
February 21, 2017 at 7:38 AM #805695no_such_realityParticipantWe’ve become our own banana republic.
