Market’s not up 21%. S&P is up less than 10%. NASDAQ up about 16%.
August 1, 2017 at 2:17 PM #807390AnonymousGuestAre we now using the stock market as a measure of a president?
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/obama-trumps-trump-in-stock-market-gains-through-july-2017-08-01
But it turns out, equities were advancing even more quickly in the early days of President Barack Obama.
It’s a bummer that facts don’t matter any more.
August 1, 2017 at 3:46 PM #807391spdrunParticipantWho says anything about the measure of a president? It’s a measure of expectations, realistic or not.
Should be fun to watch what happens as promises are broken and expectations exceed reality. Ideally, reality will start hitting around the 2018 midterms and continue hitting through the impeachment process 🙂
August 1, 2017 at 4:28 PM #807392svelteParticipantactually, putting John Kelly in as Chief of Staff was probably the best thing he’s done. Kelly has a real chance at getting the WH operating properly, as proof by his first action being firing Scaramucci.
The two wild cards are whether Trump will continue to listen to him, and whether Kelly will have any real power over Trump’s son and stepson. I’m betting ‘no’ on all counts, but I could certainly be surprised.
I bet Kelly has had enough by December.
August 1, 2017 at 5:33 PM #807393AnonymousGuestWe were all hoping for a positive surprise from the first day. It was a longshot, but maybe he would understand the gravity of his position once in office?
It didn’t happen. In fact it’s far worse than even the worst naysayers like myself expected.
There will be no positive surprises. It’s a downward spiral now.
August 1, 2017 at 8:39 PM #807396FlyerInHiGuestJohn Kelly a general to bring order where there chaos may be good. But generals to run affairs of state may be bad for the country. Military thinking is not best for commerce, trade and prosperity.
August 2, 2017 at 9:47 AM #807397no_such_realityParticipantPersonally, I think the left is playing Trump all wrong.
The amount of hyperbole out of both sides makes it almost like a debate over a fictional character.
The reality is that Trump has been spectacularly ineffective since taking office.
Devastating for the environment? Not really, mostly shooting his mouth. DAP yes, Keystone Permit, yes, and a minor yet to be enacted coal stream rule, yet.
Paris climate deal revocation, well that’s what his mouth says, but it isn’t that simple. We’re still in it, will still be in it and getting out of it will make the healthcare thrashing look comical.
Immigration, well, yes he change priorities. Arrest up, deportations actually down. Wall? What wall.
Healthcare? Fail. Fail. Fail.
Jobs? Like Foxcon in Wisconsin, at a million dollars a piece in tax deals, IMHO, Wisconsin taxpayers are getting raped.
His single biggest accomplishment was naming a Supreme Court justice with a friendly congress and senate. Granted, the supreme court over the next 7 years will set the direction for the next 25.
Basically, that’s how the left needs to play Trump. He’s failing. The mouth blows but there’s nothing there. Quit rising to the twitter bait and stay focused on real accomplishments, there aren’t any.
Every time there’s screams about the environment, healthcare or anything else, it makes people think Trump is actually doing something.
The emperor has no clothes when it comes to getting it done.
August 2, 2017 at 11:49 AM #807402sdduuuudeParticipantThe liberals have cried “wolf” too much on Trump and have not picked their battles well at all.
Rather than pointing out specific policies that have resulted in specific problems, they just attack Trump personally.
When something concrete emerges, will they be able to take advantage of it ? I doubt it.
August 2, 2017 at 11:52 AM #807403AnonymousGuest
Every time there’s screams about the environment, healthcare or anything else, it makes people think Trump is actually doing something.
Uh, no.
I can’t even guess as to how you arrive at your perception of how “the left” is “playing” Trump.
The claim on this thread is that he has been comically ineffective at furthering his agenda. (We haven’t even mentioned the crimes yet…)
But his incompetence can do harm. Let’s not forget that he is and will continue to be the most powerful person on earth. He doesn’t just sit in his office and tweet all day. As much as he’s done to undermine his influence in such a short time, he can and will make many things happen. Things that affect millions of people.
ACA could be much more effective with some modifications now that we understand how it works in practice. But instead he just spouts hyperbole about how terrible it is. There are some no-brainer solutions available to make healthcare better. He is deliberately working to make it worse.
He’s only just started dismantling the EPA. It will take a few years for industry to do any real environmental damage. The damage will last for decades or more. I’ve seen plenty of this firsthand.
Then there’s the thousand cuts that will come from general laissez faire, cronyism, and incompetence: Education, management of agencies like HUD, etc.
None of this is good for the military either.
We are fortunate that there is no crisis in the world that requires leadership. Let’s hope the next three years are boring.
August 2, 2017 at 11:57 AM #807404AnonymousGuest
Rather than pointing out specific policies that have resulted in specific problems, they just attack Trump personally.
The blindingly-stupid hypocrisy of the Fox News viewer captured beautifully in once sentence.
Now be a good pigg, and bring us some data.
Send us the link to all of Obama’s tweets that attack Trump personally.
August 2, 2017 at 12:08 PM #807405no_such_realityParticipantPlaying as in running their campaign against. Playing as in the way you play the game against an opponent.
The death of a thousand cuts? Reversed with the stroke of the next President’s pen, the same Trump enacted them.
It’s fine, keep rising to the bait of Trump. Like today, the proposal on immigration. A non-starter in congress really, little if any chance to actually make it to actually getting signed to law let alone any legal challenges to it.
Trump like his business deals is running bulldozers to make and fill holes to make it seem like something is happening.
Nothing is happening. It’s all empty. Again, the best way to defuse what Trump is doing is not reacting and simply pointing out his proposals are all vaporware.
Can he do real lasting damage? Yes, he can. So far, it’s all hyperbole. But so far, Trump is like the WallStreet Bro telling us he’s a great ladies man, the reality is he’s the Wallstreet Bro humping the Fearless Girl statue.
Actually, he’s more a Beavis wishing he was the Wallstreet Bro humping the Fearless Girl.

Campaign?
You mean that thing that happened before he was an incompetent president?
The death of a thousand cuts? Reversed with the stroke of the next President’s pen, the same Trump enacted them.
Well then I guess we shouldn’t care what any president does because it’s all temporary.
It’s fine, keep rising to the bait of Trump
LOL. “Bait” implies he has a game plan. You just argued in your previous post that he did not.
Nothing is happening. It’s all empty. Again, the best way to defuse what Trump is doing is not reacting and simply pointing out his proposals are all vaporware.
The whole “the left is overreacting” is right out of Fox News headlines. It’s the constant theme of Limbaugh, Breitbart etc.
There are literally, constantly headlines on those venues in the form of “Democrats are having meltdown!”
Right now, on FoxNews.com:
DOJ IGNITES FIRESTORM Sessions reportedly taking on affirmative action
OMG the left is having another “firestorm” !!!!
There is and always will be debate about policy proposals. But the right wing media constantly labels ordinary dissent from the left as an extreme overreaction, using words like “firestorm.” It’s part of the overly-sensitive zealot stereotype that they perpetuate.
Why do they do that? Because you fall for it, accept it as truth and build your worldview around it.
(Give us an example of what “not overreacting” even looks like – should Rachel Maddow just cancel her show for the month because Trump didn’t actually do anything and there are no counterpoints to make?)
Can he do real lasting damage? Yes, he can. So far, it’s all hyperbole. But so far, Trump is like the WallStreet Bro telling us he’s a great ladies man, the reality is he’s the Wallstreet Bro humping the Fearless Girl statue.
He’s the President of the United States.
If you don’t understand what authority that position gives him, I cannot help you.
August 2, 2017 at 12:56 PM #807407no_such_realityParticipantHe’s President, not a god.
He’s ineffective and everything he’s done is basically bulldozers just moving dirt piles to sucker investors.
You’re buying it like the suckers in his casino.
He deserves to have his positions laughed off the stage because that’s how they really are at this point, laughable.
August 2, 2017 at 1:00 PM #807408spdrunParticipantI hope more people buy it. The chaos when illusions come suddenly crashing down will be … exploitable.
