I’m in support of public mass transit so I think that it’s great.
UTC needs a trolley to serve the university. I know that students who don’t have cars would love it.
People who want quiet and isolation might feel differently.
If you live in North UC (UTC side of UC) then quiet and isolation are pretty hard to find. It’s a very dense area. The proposed routes would not impact south UC (the older/south side of UC).
The routes proposed would go along existing train tracks – so there’s no additional noise…. trolleys are quieter than amtrak.

May 18, 2010 at 1:27 PM #551332(former)FormerSanDieganParticipant
At the same time, I think it’s a given that mass transit facilitates allowing the people to frequent communities they ordinarily would not. The concern is the criminal element a trolley would bring to UTC.
Would a trolley be a positive or negative? What effect would it have on property values?
I would not worry too much about The Others making the trip all the way to UTC to wreak havoc. There are plenty of other victims, particularly tourists, between downtown and UTC to rob or cheat from.
I think it is a net positive for residents in the western portion of Bay Park and UTC. Looks like Bay Ho gets the shaft (a train goes through, but no stops. What about COSTCO employees?)

May 18, 2010 at 1:39 PM #551337DWCAPParticipantTrolly is a positive, asuming they can keep the costs down. The train tracks already go through there, and if it reduces car traffic it may actually reduce noise levels in UTC/clairmont. And I dont worry about people finding new areas to robb, what are they gonna do? Walk onto the trolley with a 50″ Flat screen and two laptops in their hands and no one will notice? Naw, they can just drive a car in and get that stuff and no one would be the wiser right now.
I think if you live more than half a block to a block away from the trolley lines/stops, itll be a net positive for the community/property.
