Trolley impact in UTC

Just wanted some feedback from Piggs on this. I’ve been looking for a couple years at properties in various ZIPs. Mostly central/coastal SD. UTC is one of the areas. So I’m understanding that eventually we’ll have a trolley going through Bay Park to UTC.

While on one hand I’m glad they are trying to implement mass transit, on the other hand, I’m concerned about the effects on the area.

We are woefully in need of some serious and effective mass transit in SD and having a trolley running up to UTC can only begin to scratch the surface.

At the same time, I think it’s a given that mass transit facilitates allowing the people to frequent communities they ordinarily would not. The concern is the criminal element a trolley would bring to UTC.

Would a trolley be a positive or negative? What effect would it have on property values?

As a local to the area (I live in south UC, across the canyon from where the trolley station would be at UTC mall.) I’m THRILLED with the idea.

IMO the best route it the yellow one – since it uses existing tracks (or right of ways) for most of the route. As a taxpayer, lets keep the costs as low as possible.

The path through Clairemont looks pretty straightforward – folks in Bay Ho/Bay Park are already used to MORE noise from freeway, train, etc. There’s only divergence on the paths north of 52.

Like I said – I live in the area and think it’s awesome!

I’m in support of public mass transit so I think that it’s great.

UTC needs a trolley to serve the university. I know that students who don’t have cars would love it.

People who want quiet and isolation might feel differently.
