Then you ask yourself this:* why the lock downs in China, Korea, Iran, Italy, etc
* why the travel bans?
* why trump declared a national emergency? (and please don’t tell me he was forced into action by the MSM).* 1629 cases, 41 deaths – how many tested? Yeah, let’s not test the people, if they can’t verify they’re infected with virus therefore the virus is not spreading and killing.
1. Yes, this is a new strain so yes, concern in necessary. Limiting spread by limiting exposure is also necessary.
2. Inducing panic through lousy regression modeling is wrong.
3. Testing 1. Docs already say, don’t test unless you are presenting symptoms. Limited test kits due to brand new virus and not readily available.
4. Testing 2. Here is a parallel to support above. A lot can be determined by a single blood sample. Do they currently test for every possible thing when you give a sample. Answer:no.
5. I don’t know all of the nuances and ramifications when a national emergency is called. I suspect it has something to do with money too. ie. you can cancel a trip without incurring last minute cancellation fees, etc.
I think this may be the case re timing of schools closing (possibly contributing to the beginning of the panic stage) is that when governor declared emergency, state funds schools (pensions) irrespective to the ADA ( average daily attendance).
Enough for now.
March 15, 2020 at 12:55 PM #815592spdrunParticipantThe national emergency is for two reasons:
(1) frees up a lot of emergency funding
(2) Corps of Engineers and Public Health Service assistance in getting new hospitals running. As far as the models, better safe than sorry. Until we have better testing up and running and know more, let’s try to reduce the spread of this thing. Remember, if it infects 3 people per week from one person on average and you can get that number down to 2, in 5 weeks, you’ll have 32 cases vs 243. If you can get the number below 1, the epidemic will burn out naturally.
March 15, 2020 at 3:38 PM #815593outtamojoParticipant
12. is incorrect. “Do not leave your home” shouldn’t be taken to mean don’t go for walks, don’t go to your yard, don’t go outside. This isn’t the aftermath of Chornobyl … if anything, exposure to sun and fresh air reduce stress and boost immunity. Don’t hang out in crowded rooms, but going outdoors is OK and even healthy…

Yeah go for a hike instead of the gym

Just look at official indices of different markets to compare performance. There is no need for individual stories that cannot be verified.
March 15, 2020 at 6:16 PM #815594CoronitaParticipantSo some think we are going to have a travel restriction for CA and Washington this week.
I’ve already told some of my staff to leave who are from other states or trying to relocate to other states in case the state border gets restricted

So…I must admit I too have adjusted a few things now. I’ve canceled all flights to other states, and have switched travel within California to be by car not plane. That’s all I’ve done so far. No stocking up on food or toilet paper. Yet.
Finally caved. Canceled all trips within California tonight.
Nothing on my calendar as far as the eye can see.
Feels very strange. Maybe I’ll take up meditation.

I think it was the safe thing to do. They are shutting down Las Vegas Strip now… It’s bad.

And the way things are going, nothing will remain open in CA. The ski resorts are shutting down too.
Family bonding time. My kid and I built a new Ryzen 3900x system just now in record time 1 hr 35 minutes…. She wouldn’t have done it if she was in school with all her activities.

I got a boatload of other projects I can catch up on that I normally wouldn’t.

Ok snowflake. You such fake news
Everyone of mine can be verified. Let’s here you’ll actual results. We’ll trust you to tell the truth.
March 15, 2020 at 8:14 PM #815600CoronitaParticipantI’m seeing a really disturbing trend on some of the neighborhood blogs that a lot of teachers and students who are now home are offering to babysit and provide daycare services to more than one child (for parents that still need to work).
Isn’t this sort of dangerous?
March 15, 2020 at 8:31 PM #815603outtamojoParticipantThe economic toll of this episode should spur a reasonable society to throw a pittance more at vaccine and immune system research.
March 16, 2020 at 3:40 AM #815608HobieParticipantTeachers, govn’t workers that are now not working are still getting paid at normal salary.
Private industry is required to shut down. We will be taking a hit, but not taxpayer funded school staff?? Hmm.
March 16, 2020 at 4:09 AM #815609HobieParticipantHigh school kid developed this Covid-19 aggregator site. Simple, well done. Good for him!
March 16, 2020 at 5:44 AM #815610spdrunParticipantRe: Babysitting- better the kids be in groups of 5-6 than in an entire school.
