no tint on front window is allowed. There is no tint o meter at police stations, where do people get this stuff.
Cops just use their imaginary tint-o-meters when writing these tickets?

Anyways, tomorrow I will get it looked at local pigsty and hopefully it passes the truffle sniff test. Car was a CPO bought from local dealer and a prior lease of new car so doubt it had extra non factory tint added.

There is no such thing as factory tint on a BMW sedan that was for north america for the past few years. BMW never had an option for “privacy glass” on North America cars, with the exception of SUV’s like X5 and X3, and then it was only offered as an option for the rear windows. European BMW 5 series had this option, but it would only be available if someone previously took european delivery of your car. So unless your car was purchased via the ED program, it’s most likely an aftermarket tint film, not smoked glass.

Whether yours is illegal or not I do not know, but the tint laws are good in my mind.
My wife got a ticket the other day for no front plate in one of our sports cars. She was none too happy. So I put the plates on all my cars now. The increase aesthetic that platelessness brings is not worth the hassle.
And actually the CHP guy that signed off on the fix actually apologized to me, said it was travesty to have to put the plate on the car and he wishes his fellow officers wouldn’t ticket it. He gets it, nice guy. One bad apple don’t spoil the whole bunch, girl.

I bought car almost seven years ago like that from BMW dealership in Irvine and never had issue until recently. At least I have time to deal with it. That and taxes.
