If I recall, not tint in the front windows was allowed in CA. I would double check on that.
February 25, 2016 at 3:51 PM #794962PCinSDGuestI highly doubt that a vehicle manufacturer tinted the front windows in a way that violates State law. Unless you instructed the Dealer to install darker tint.
February 25, 2016 at 7:55 PM #794975moneymakerParticipantAnybody can buy a tinted window and have it installed. I would say measuring the amount of tint is a better indicator than whether it has film or not. I’ll have to admit I am more suspicious of a car with darkly tinted windows, now in AZ in might be the norm. I kinda want to see who is driving and no I’m not a cop.
February 25, 2016 at 9:20 PM #794977temeculaguyParticipantno tint on front window is allowed. There is no tint o meter at police stations, where do people get this stuff. You can tint your front windows with absolute clear UV protection, if you can see it, its not factory, not on the drivers or passenger’s front window.
Everyone thinks the cops should enforce the laws other people break, not the ones they break. Just because you got away with it for years doesn’t mean it is legal. There is no factory tint on front windows(dealers can apply it but rarely do). If it was new, not used and you bought it from the dealer that way you have grounds for a small claims case against the dealer.

I got a ticket for going 65 in a 55 once, but I have driven that speed 5 days a week for ten years before and ten after. I made a choice, got caught once, it’s not the cop’s fault, it was mine.
February 25, 2016 at 9:34 PM #794979mixxalotParticipantSorry but it is a retarded stupid ass law excuse pigs use to fine suckers to collect revenue for the bankrupt city of San Diego and state of California! Gang bangers drive POS cars with windows down and don’t care about tickets. This pig had an ax to grind because I was driving a nice car. Here’s some info:
http://www.californiacarlaws.com/window-tint/
In my case the tint is clear factory BMW tint that Crevier BMW sold me the car seven years ago. Never once did a cop ever pull me over until this week.
In sunlight, it is clear tint and can see through easily. Like I said, at night it is hard to see anything in pitch black.
February 25, 2016 at 9:44 PM #794980mixxalotParticipantActually not true, tint is allowed in front but must have 70% allow light into windows which my car front windows do as it is clear tint. I will have Progressive tint check it out as well as a local pigsty before my court date. No wonder people hate cops!
February 25, 2016 at 9:45 PM #794981mixxalotParticipantCops just follow orders from the corrupt state leftist commie California government. They are not paid to think. That is the problem. Dumb asses vote bad duds into office that make laws to fleece the people of cash for no good reason.
February 25, 2016 at 9:48 PM #794983mixxalotParticipantWhich gives me reason to complain to the SDPD Chief about harassment and get this officer chewed out for being a royal jackass:

February 25, 2016 at 11:34 PM #794986paramountParticipantHow dare anyone question a ticket!
They need their pension $$.
Remember: Gov’t works only for govt workers!
February 26, 2016 at 7:21 AM #794989livinincaliParticipantOnly problem with fighting it and winning is there’s a day coming when another cop on another day is going to pull you over again and write you a ticket for tint. Maybe it is worth getting the tint removed.
BTW in CA no tint is allowed on the front windshield other than the top 4 inches. Clear UV coating is allowed but no tint. Since different states have different laws it probably doesn’t matter if it’s factory or not.
February 26, 2016 at 7:36 AM #794995mixxalotParticipantFront windshield has no tint. Side windows clear tint very light. Back window has dark tint which is allowed. Cop was a punk idiot.
February 26, 2016 at 8:37 AM #794998spdrunParticipantlivinincali — FACTORY tint can’t be removed. It’s part of the glass! You’d actually have to have the windows in question replaced.
I’d assume that California bans additional tint on front windows, not factory. If it meets US safety standards, it can be registered in CA, at least as a used car.
February 26, 2016 at 9:04 AM #794996CoronitaParticipantSo I read about the CA laws regarding tint. The front is legal as long as it allows 70% of the light through. Mine are legal because they are UV only. But if this is a concern for you buy a cheap light meter and keep it in your car. Then if you ever get pulled over, you can show the cop the law and the results.
Otherwise, when you get pulled over, roll both of your windows down. Some cops hate tinted windows because they can’t see you after they’ve pulled you over.So you’ll end up getting ticketed for that plus whatever else you did.

To my knowledge, BMW does not make a factory tint glass (smoked glass) on a passenger car. Only SUV/CUV and only for the rear window and rear side windows.
