Jp: You do realize that knowing who the Beastie Boys are dates us horribly, right?I just had an “oh, shit” moment when it hit me that “License to Ill” came out in 1986. Yeah, 1986.
I should go out and buy some Depends or something.
You just made me feel REALLY old now.. I remember Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk album and Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’ album(s). Then of course there is Alan Parson’s Project and Emmerson Lake and Palmer. I didn’t pay much attention to the Beastie Boys. All of these predate the Beastie Boys.
That would have been 1979, right? That was my first year of high school (shit!) and I remember “Tusk” and “The Wall”, along with Tom Petty’s “Damn the Torpedoes” and Michael Jackson’s “Off the Wall” (not for me, but this girl I was seeing LOVED that album). I also remember the Ramones (“It’s Alive”), AC/DC (“Highway to Hell”) and Foreigner (“Head Games”) and an up-and-coming group out of the UK called The Police.
They just don’t make music like they used to.
Nah. I only know them b/c that’s what my parents listened to.
(gosh I wish that were true)
Aged to perfection like a fine wine.

Speaking of AC/DC – since the topic is threadjacking! – lots of AC/DC fans don’t know about the Spinal Tap-like progression of Bon Scott’s musical proclivities (from british invasion to bubblegum pop to Jethro Tull-like progressive rock and finally to hard rock). If you’ve seen Spinal Tap, you’ll really appreciate these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1Z-Cwuavc0 (Bon with the Spektors)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ-45XG7n4k (Bon with the Valentines)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZY2nl2CwLc (Bon with Fraternity – playing a fucking flute (or recorder?)!! (and singing))
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VT2wKBkpUis (with, of course…)I didn’t realize until recently how comical his history prior to AC/DC was.
