Here’s where I want to go for socialized medicine, I am sure a lot of American doctors are planning on moving there in the near future:
Let’s look at what makes Costa Rica so attractive for expats. A very low incidence of violent crime (no society is crime free), a low cost socilaized health care system, inexpensive housing, a wealth of every imaginable activity to stay busy and happy, two excellent English newspapers, cable and DirectTV with all of the U.S. channels and a myraid of exciting business opportunities for enterprising foreigners, all help to contribute to the country’s excellent reputation as a place to live. Moreover, most people can live on less than $1,000 monthly excluding rent. Some live for less and some for more depending on their lifestyles. At least I would have a choice there….
There are also many tax advantages to living in Costa Rica. Investors pay no capital gains taxes on real estate, business taxes are minimal and high interest bank accounts are tax free. Property taxes are also reasonable when compared to the U.S.
If you choose to go into business, the government offers incentives.

March 23, 2010 at 11:43 AM #529716AnonymousGuestEveryone needs healthcare- Lets just stop that debate- only some heartless douche would allow people (anyone) to die in the streets.
AND
This is not a Republican or Democratic issue – its an american issue. The problem is that we have only heard of a few of the items on the long laundry list of what is in this bill. There is way more that was added in to get votes. Lets not forget wooden arrows.
And this is the second time I have heard from the senate that “at least its better than nothing”. Are you kidding me- this is the best they could come up with? Geez- people on here have better ideas.
The worst is that they went off the “40 million americans don’t have health care” thats the trick and then all the stories of people and children on thier death beds (at home) because insurance has denied them, draws you in. Well why didn’t they just go after those issues? why involve the IRS (OMG).
There is way more in that bill and its going to cost everyone. There was way more in kickbacks to those senetors who voted yes – thier states and counties will all get some stupid road fixed or extra in education funds paid for thru our tax money.
I was ready willing and able to pay extra so everyone can have healthcare- I am just disgusted that this went down the way it did.

No tort reform, no letting insurance companies competing across state lines, backroom deals that stink, ramming legislation through, not allowing anyone to read the bills all smells of bad lawmaking. On top of that, a suspicion of obama’s socialistic tendancies leaves alot of people suspicious that this bill is not about helping our country do health care better, but to socialize it as the goal.
