Participant
I don’t see the attraction of houses with exposed wood beams.
I personally don’t like wood anything that looks old, worn and dated after a few years.
Don’t worry, as you get older you’ll develop some taste. (ok, settle down, just kidding, crimmy some people are so touchy)
Actually, as a wood worker, I have to say that many woods develop more beauty as they age. The grain patterns become more pronounced and the finish takes on a beautify patina.
Also worth noting, most of the exposed wood beams in SD are not even close to the same as a real timber frame.

ParticipantVery good thread, everyone. I’m saving this for when my wife wants a custom house… then again, she’ll probably want to general the project herself 🙂
When I go to mountain resort areas, I always dread the chalet type accommodations where everything is wood with brown carpet. I don’t care how much they costs (some places in the millions) but those places are just uninviting to me.
I don’t see the attraction of log houses in Wyoming and such.
Give me a modern concrete house with bay windows any day.
