I think a return to that style of life is actually a good thing. Especially the making your own beer part.
Couldn’t agree more. I feel like the past 10 years have been lived on a movie set. Everything in society has become fake, stale, and un-inspiring. Part of me looks forward to the coming changes, because I think they will force us all to re-evaluate our priorities.
Self-reliance, tighter friend/family/community bonds, lower consumption… these are all good things. It’s just unfortunate that an economic collapse is what it will take to bring these changes to fruition.
No, I do not think we will be living in Thunderdome. Life is just about to become a whole lot simpler. Old school, if you will.
BTW Allan, do you brew anything? Care to share any of the family recipes?

January 26, 2009 at 11:48 AM #336395Allan from FallbrookParticipantafx: Sadly, I do not. I consume my fair share, and have a fairly extensive knowledge (given to me by gramps, my uncle and my dad), but no recipes.
There are some great websites, however, dedicated to beer recipes and I was noticing that certain German beers are starting to make a comeback here in the US, such as Berliner Kindl Weisse (which is very tart and is Berlin’s signature beer) and Rauchbier (which is like drinking bacon, no shit, and it tastes WAY better than it sounds).
You might check out the German Beer Institute (you can Google them). I’m pretty sure they offer recipes for brewing.

Is the economy crashing? Yep. Are we currently being ripped off? You betcha. Is the government inept, corrupt, and inefficient? No doubt. Are we all gonna die? Probably not.
Just my $0.02…
That is fuggn funny. I visit this board once in a long awhile to see what’s new in housing. But this is getting funny. All we need here is a blog leader telling everyone lets rent a huge mansion in Rancho Santa Fe and then when they get there, here comes the black Nike’s or the Jone’s Town juice, because it’s getting so bad that there is no alternative. lol
