It’s going global
Philadelphia orders curfew after flash-mob attacks
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-14466369%5B/quote%5DThe flash mob phenomenon is definitely under-reported, but has hit not only Philly, but Chicago and Milwaukee (Milwaukee!), too.
I think there is definitely a bad vibe out there and its only going to get worse.
The point below about France and the bifurcation of classes is also important: Many of those communities are tinderboxes. Add in the social networking component and you can take these events viral (Arab Spring, anyone?).

An Army buddy of mine (who’s still in) is stationed in Brussels with NATO. He was recently traveling from Paris to Brussels by rail (in uniform) with a group of American, French and British Army officers. He happened to notice a group of youths lounging nearby, with a large green flag sporting a star and crescent hanging behind them. One of the French Army officers explained that certain sections of various train stations, including the Paris Metro and Gare du Nord, had been taken over by muslim youths. While they were speaking, one of these youths smiled at my buddy and then drew his thumb across his throat in a slitting gesture.
You’re absolutely right about that “stew”.
