people shouldn’t be outraged over these senseless acts of violence?
You could have asked that same question throughout any time period in history. Go ahead, be worried. Same as it ever was.

That was kinda my point- we are NOT evolving to a higher plane where we can trust each other blindly and things have always been this way and shall remain so for the foreseeable future.

ParticipantHonestly, I think there may have been one group of teens playing this “game”, the media picked it up, and now every mugging and beating is a sign of the “knockout game.” Now that they’ve publicized it, there will be copycats. Yay. Congrats to the fearmongers for creating a phenomenon.

ParticipantJust buy a landrover and be prepared to hit the gas because we’ve evolved.

ParticipantJeebus Xhrist, another incident that’s evolved to more than it actually was. If you listened to the media last month, you’d have thought that Upper Manhattan was owned by the Hell’s Angels and Pagans or something.
I’m not a proponent of censorship. But I do think that the media should show some decorum and not play up every anomalous incident, whether it’s a sick game or a school shooting to more than it actually is. Publicity encourages copycats.

ParticipantWith the instant, always on communication and media, we’re not evolving, we’re devolving. Society is becoming more Junior High like running on rumor and clique.

ParticipantYet the rate of violence has actually gone down a lot in the last 20-30 years. EVERY era will have its problems, its challenges, and its joys. Ours is no different.

Didn’t a bunch of people overreact over a, to use your words, “phony panic” when a teenager was gunned down while walking with skittles and ice tea?
I guess I should have told them that “Go ahead, be worried. Same as it ever was.”

Participant
Guess What? The ‘Knockout Game’ Is America’s Latest Phony Panic
Panic yea. Phony no.
I have seen this played before in Denver 12 years ago.
Still have a better chance of winning the lottery than to be a victim.
Doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen.

ParticipantI think TNC nailed it, as he usually does. http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2013/11/from-super-predators-to-the-knockout-game/281875/
