August 10, 2006 at 11:27 AM #31569VCJIMParticipantI was going to say that the best English food I’ve had was Chinese, Indian and Greek! Really fantastic Greek food in Northern London. One of the worst meals ever: A steak in central London. How is it possible to remove any and all flavor from food? It’s an English secret, I’m quite sure.

Worst of all, what can you do when you’re penniless and evicted from your home?
To rent our house, we needed $4500 cash for deposit + 1st months rent, plus $1200 or so for movers (credit card was okay). How likely is someone, freshly evicted or in foreclosure, to have $4500 laying around, and some credit for moving expenses? If they had that much money, wouldn’t they have used it for the mortgage? I think people will spend their retirement money before they let their house go back to the bank.
What are the options for people in foreclosure? They’ll probably leave San Diego to rent in a cheaper area. Moving and renting costs money. Where from? Most likely scenarious is that these folks will move back home with mom and dad, or siblings, or other family. With no money and shot credit, what else could you do?

Beef is really expensive in England, let alone GOOD beef.
Oh, and the secret to bad steak is simple. Take a low quality piece of meat and apply the following seasoning:
1)
2)
3)Once you’ve added the above seasoning, broil the steak in a small stove. Not too hot, that might sear in the juices! Cook it slowly.
Wait until the steak is cooked all the way through. Then cook it a little more, just to be safe.
Serve.
Thank atheist-equivalent-to-God I now have Costco and a nice gas grill. I can cook pretty decent steak any time I want now!
In case you’re wondering, I don’t plan on returning to England to live… π

I went to school overseas and my Brit Lit professor was the wife of the British Consul. She was quite proud and insisted that everyone spoke the Queen’s English in her class. She explained that the Queen’s English is the best English and that French cuisine is the best food.

August 11, 2006 at 12:32 AM #31672DoofratParticipantChipotle Marinated Tri-Tip, best thing at Seaside Market. It’s always funny how the meat cutters get mad cause they have to cut off a piece for you though. No I don’t want 3 and a half pounds of $9 a pound meat and you’re a meat cutter, cut it biatch! I only say that here, cause I’m not going to tell a guy with a big knife that in person.
Seriously though, CardiffBaseball is right, that is the best cut of meat, if you’re anywhere near Seaside, get some!August 11, 2006 at 9:50 AM #31682CardiffBaseballParticipantOh yes I forgot to mention that you should get the Chipotle marinated version and frankly I can’t ever imagine going out for steaks after eating this. Man I am getting hungry just thinking about it, as I am in weight loss mode and eating more chicken right now. Chicken gets old fast though one big tri-tip from Seaside, can last a couple of meals.
August 11, 2006 at 9:53 AM #31686VCJIMParticipantCardiff, You’re nominated to host the next Piggington Barbecue, that tri-tip sounds fabulous.
August 11, 2006 at 9:59 AM #31687CardiffBaseballParticipantI live pretty close to Today’s Pizza, but I guarantee you couldn’t all fit in my house. A little over 1000 sq. feet, thought the yard isn’t bad. Coming from 2500 Sq. Feet in Ohio and an additional 1200 Sq. feet of finished basement, made us really throw a lot of stuff out. With that size house plus the 3 acres we hosted a lot of bashes.
Heck we used to host minor league ballplayers in the extra bedrooms from one of the Cleveland Indians, short season A clubs. Talk about fun for the kids going to the minor league games every night. Feeding those guys was an expense though.
I digress, but my hosting days are limited in exchange for living near the beach.
