Participantparamount – as independents we don’t get to vote for Mr Paul in the Feb 5 Primary – the only candidates that we will have on our ballot Feb 5 will be American Independent Party and California Democratic Party candidates – have you considered registering as a Republican in order to support Mr Paul? – anyone know how to change registration and what the deadline is?

Participantas we create more debt to finance our over-indulgent American lifestyle (judgement call on my part) we have to pay interest on this new debt as well as maintain payments on yesterday’s debts – over time the burden of maintaining these debt payments becomes too much and default becomes inevitable
George Ure (www.urbansurvival.com – excellent daily news published Mon thru Sat around 6 am local) has a theory about the lifespan of a fiat currency – he believes that 83 years is the max time before interest on the debt goes parabolic (ie, becomes unsupportable) – the US dollar became fiat within the US borders in 1933 when gold was outlawed for US citizens (but still used to satisfy international trade deficits) – 83 years from 1933 is 2016 (George uses this number – I don’t know why he uses 1933 and not 1971 when Nixon closed the gold window as the starting point for the 83 years)
another indicator for analyzing the burden of supporting existing debt is the GDP growth vs debt growth ratio – in an ideal world every dollar of new debt would result in one dollar of GDP growth – since we have to pay interest on the borrowed dollar we don’t get a full dollar’s worth of GDP growth out of it – as the years pass it takes more and more new dollars in debt to create just one dollar of new GDP – the latest number I have seen is that it is taking over $4 dollars in new debt to create one dollar in new GDP growth
unfortunately history is pretty consistent about the ending days of both empires and fiat currencies – this history indicates that fascism or some kind of police state is likely in America because the citizens have to be protected from terror (ie, can’t be allowed to protest and riot) as the economy which is based on Keynesian economic fallacies collapses – some people might point to Patriot Acts I and II as the first steps down the road to a police state in America – there are certainly indications that our fiat currency is dying and rumors abound on the internet about a new currency, the Amero, that could replace the US dollar when the US is merged with Canada and Mexico
as the Chinese say, “May you live in interesting times” …

I see Ron Paul as our best chance to change the direction our country is headed in
December 16th is “Money Bomb” day number 2 for Mr Paul’s campaign – the goal is to raise $10 million – on Nov 5th (anniv of Boston Tea Party) he raised $4.2 mil during Money Bomb #1 – I will be donating the max amount allowable for an individual, $2300, on the 16th and I encourage everyone to support Mr Paul on that day if possible – http://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate

ParticipantYou guys gave me a good idea. I’ll vote for your guy. Going to register right now. I haven’t registered since moving to Jamul anyway.
EDIT: I don’t mean that to sound disparaging. Lets just say I have my doubts about potential for progress and feel using my vote this way in the primary will hopefully send the message of discontent if nothing else, more or less in line with what Raybernes has been saying when he compares Paul’s run with Ralph Nader’s.
The registration site is a snap.

Participant“Ever heard about Plaza Accord?”
Not until I just read about it on the Wiki.
It didn’t seem all that successful according the contributors on the Wiki.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plaza_Accord
esmith, I read some of your comments on RP and I see your angle, my question is…if not RP, then who?
I’m the kind of guy that rather go through the inconvenience of getting rid of things (IRS, etc) that may cause headaches in the short run if it means we will be better off in the long run.
Things need shaken up in this country and RP is the man to do it…

ParticipantIt didn’t seem all that successful according the contributors on the Wiki.
They have successfully devalued the dollar by 50%, improved current account deficit and competitiveness of American products, and it did not lead to the collapse of the American empire.
my question is…if not RP, then who?
Someone who’s willing to work on solving real problems in accordance with mainstream economics (like 50 million Americans without health insurance and Chinese currency manipulation), not just fictituous ones (like declining dollar and government spending money on Departments of Energy and Education). Barack Obama, for example. I’d vote for Paul Krugman if he was on the ballot.
getting rid of things (IRS, etc) that may cause headaches in the short run if it means we will be better off in the long run.
I’d agree about getting rid of something if we had examples of other countries managing without it.
Unfortunately, every single developed country in the world, from Finland to Australia, has its equivalent of the IRS and the Federal Reserve. -

obviously nobody was able to see the largest bubble in the world’s history before it popped so it must have been luck that caused me to sell nearly $5 million dollars worth of real estate between 2002 and 2005 – it certainly couldn’t have been my analysis of the local market or national economy

Oh, one more thing Jumby. If you post on this site you are not allowed to talk about doing well or gaining wealth in real estate. If you do, you will be labeled as an attention whore or someone who claims to be better then everyone because you have done well. This is the reason why 4plex was coy with his answer. He obviously began posting on this site before he knew the “mishna” or code of content. I own 18 unit’s in Encinitas at moonlight. Mine were given to me by my parents when they died. This is one of the primary ways to gain wealth in real estate. Until recently, this was the main way people got started. Sorry I don’t have any better advice.

Surveyor who has not posted for awhile has done quite well in real estate and continues to do so. I would say that making money in SoCal real estate today is difficult at best. I think that the demographics of posters on this board is largely skewed towards the discussion of San Diego real estate AND that most of the participants are not in the business of creating wealth through real estate. I would say they are a cross section of folks, mostly buyers or potential buyers, who want to try to learn more about real estate. Furthermore they want to try to reduce the risk of thier own purchase in light of how volatile the market in San Diego has been over the past several years.
There is no argument about the tone of the posters, I grant you that. However if you have hard data behind your arguments, you can go toe to toe with them in the forum and at the very least be respected. It is the speculative statements within bullish arguments that gets them to bare thier teeth. The bitterness part…. that has been well chronicled and maybe even overblown.

ParticipantSDR: I concur with your observation, and would offer an observation of my own. That is, the more intelligent and open minded posters (IMHO) also tend to be the more considerate in their responses and considered in their logic and reasoning.
Some of the more hyperbolic and vitriolic responses have also been rife with misspellings and grammatical errors. This probably sounds somewhat judgmental, but there it is.
I have had my head handed to me a couple of times here, and by the “pros” (those with the data and the sound arguments), and, because of how professionally it was done, I had no hard feelings. To the contrary, nothing is more enjoyable than a good argument (in the truest definition of the word) with a good opponent.
Some of the more ad hominem attacks are simply over the top, and they really detract from both the spirit of this board and the overall quality of the posters/postings.
Just my $.02.
On a personal note, I have really appreciated your hard work in disseminating some truly valuable information about the local RE scene. I have gained new insights as a result, and it forced me to rethink several of my positions (for the better, I should add). Regards.

esmith, I read some of your comments on RP and I see your angle, my question is…if not RP, then who?
I’m the kind of guy that rather go through the inconvenience of getting rid of things (IRS, etc) that may cause headaches in the short run if it means we will be better off in the long run.
Things need shaken up in this country and RP is the man to do it…

ParticipantYou guys gave me a good idea. I’ll vote for your guy. Going to register right now. I haven’t registered since moving to Jamul anyway.
EDIT: I don’t mean that to sound disparaging. Lets just say I have my doubts about potential for progress and feel using my vote this way in the primary will hopefully send the message of discontent if nothing else, more or less in line with what Raybernes has been saying when he compares Paul’s run with Ralph Nader’s.
The registration site is a snap.

ParticipantRon Paul is a publicity seeker that wants to ban abortion in the first and second trimesters. Look up his position on that.
Libertarians are pretty much a mixed bag, as some say good things about the gold standard and the Federal Reserve, but beyond that, they’re more like anarchists.
Ron Paul could play the role of spoiler in this election.

That is not true.
Ron Paul is an OB/GYN doctor that delivered more than 4000 babies. He personally believes, that an abortion is a murder. But he also believes that the federal government has no business dictating individuals what to do. As with many other issues, he thinks that states should deal with abortion. You’d agree, that abortion problem is perceived differently in California and, say, Texas. Same goes for same-sex marriage. Why should there be a federal law forcing its decision one way or another down everybody’s throat?Actually, there is an interview of Ron Paul by a popular womens show ‘View’, where they are discussing abortion issue in detail:

ParticipantRon Paul could play the role of spoiler in this election.
First of all, it’s a point of view question. To me everybody else is trying to spoil Ron Paul’s run.
Secondly, let’s have a look at the rest of the Republican field (let’s leave Dems aside for a moment). We have 5 people whose positions on most issues are so similar it’s difficult to distinguish between them. They all support war and interventionalism. They all are neoconservatives and have neocon advisors. All proclaim their support of conservative values, but most of them have a proven history of being very liberal at times. It’s not bad to be a liberal, but it is bad to be insincere or a flip-flop. How can you trust a guy who makes false promises just to get elected?
They are so similar that even GOP establishment has difficulties distinguishing them. As a result, they take turns as “frontrunners” and “media darlings”. And the rest of the pack uses every opportunity to attack the leader. They all have enough skeletons in the closet to fuel the attacks.
In sharp contrast, Ron Paul verifiably has a very consistent political record that spans 4 decades. He is a man of principle. He has an enormous online following that translates into a very creative real-life grassroots campaign. He raises more money from individual people than any of those, and wins an overwhelming majority of Republican straw polls.
This Sunday, December 16, on the anniversary of Boston Tea Party Ron Paul’s grassroots campaign organizes the greatest online fundraising in history. I encourage everyone to visit the website

PARIS — Erica Nevins’s faith in the dollar was shaken the moment she pressed a crumpled $1 bill into the hand of a little girl begging for money on the streets of Marrakesh, Morocco.
“I don’t want this. This is nothing,” Ms. Nevins recalled the scornful reaction of the child, who demanded more.
Since then Ms. Nevins, an American fashion executive, has replayed that moment over and over in her head as she confronts the harsh reality of living on a dollar income in Paris and then moving to costly London. “The absurdity of this is that it’s so true,” she said. “A dollar really means nothing. It’s scary.”…………..
