For example, airlines a decade ago clawed back benefits from pilots and mechanics (not people I’d want to over work and under pay and still travel by air!), layoffs, etc. but then pay enormous salaries and bonuses (really?!!) to their CEOs.
Yet I know pilots who are Republicans but belong to unions and bitch non-stop about their pay.
I think it’s a toughness things. Men believe that it’s tougher and more manly to be conservative.
Conservatives speak in plain terms such as “nuke ’em” and “flatten the whole f-ing place” . Liberals are too intellectual and too considerate of too many issues.

A little surly, been there, done that mindset,
but they knew the job and it was a union gig so
they wanted to ride it out for 40 years. They went to an outsourcing company, brought in
all non union drivers. So almost every one of the drivers is some african or south american.
Nice guys, but, they last about 6 weeks, and then a new one is there. So, it seems about once a quarter, I have to guide the driver through the route.
and every now and then the drivers never come to where i’m sitting, and i suspect they had just
missed a stop and took a wrong turn and were just gone.April 27, 2011 at 2:38 PM #689802patbParticipantOur county used to have union bus drivers.

I write software so if I want a raise I generally have to go find a new job, where I can market my new skill at a premium. My previous employer then hires (and trains) a new developer for the job for about what I got on my new one. Makes more sense they would agree to a decent raise, but not the way it works. OK in this economy if you have a decent job you shut up and are happy…
