I agree that Jp would make an ideal Rage fan. I was also going to recommend Skinny Puppy to her as well, seeing as she’s a Ministry and Front 242 fan. Sepultura is probably a bit over the top. Linkin Park might be a good choice, too.
My only issue with Rage is all that pseudo-intellectual posturing over Noam Chomsky. Puh-leeze. Why anyone would put so much faith in that self-attributing Fidel apologista is beyond me. Now if they were to quote Bakunin or Gramsci…[/quote]
What if they pushed Bertrand Russell’s geometry lessons — neocons and incongruent triangles.
Chomsky did nail down Linguistics and the power of words. Many here have stated something about the Orwellian language used by President Obama’s team. Ironic that Chomsky has been railing against that his whole life.

Sadly, he remains silent on Fidel and the depredations of the Communists after the US withdrew from Southeast Asia in 1975. Fair is fair; if you’re going to castigate the US (and rightfully so) on certain policies, you must extend those same judgments to the Communists and the leftists.
Bertrand Russell, huh? Funny you mention him. I just re-read “Why I’m Not a Christian”, following Dawkin’s “The God Delusion”. I bet Rage could do something with Russell.
Speaking of Orwell, have you read Christopher Hitchen’s “Why Orwell Matters”? Excellent book and very topical, especially given your point regarding Obama’s use of language, memes and tropes.

March 26, 2009 at 9:00 AM #373218jpinpbParticipantOT – I like Skinny Puppy also, But I’m not into Rage and Linkin Park. My tastes are taking more to that not played on the radio, though I have actually heard some clips played on KPBS. Pavement was a great underground band and I got to see them play a few times, but they broke up. Some good bands playing at Coachella.
equalizer – those are all good old school alternative bands. Don’t you want to add Souixie in the batch?March 26, 2009 at 9:00 AM #373500jpinpbParticipantOT – I like Skinny Puppy also, But I’m not into Rage and Linkin Park.
