I agree, Arraya, Surveyor might as well be one of those preaching/warring Muslims he claims to know so much about.
Surveyor is not much different from a Muslim declaring “I know this is how Christians think and behave because I read it in Christian texts. Christians must behave this way because that Pastor in Kansas said so.”
My educated guess is that he belongs to a Chinese or Korean evangelical church.

Brian: Are you for real? Seriously. That sign off is priceless. Your “educated” guess is that Surveyor belongs to a Chinese or Korean evangelical church? Wow.
For someone espousing, what was it, “liberal progressive values”, you spew some pretty vile vitriol, especially towards those of the Christian faith.
With all due deference to Dan and Arraya, both of whom I respect as rhetoricians and able to hold their own in a dust up like this one, there is plenty of evidence to support that Islam is a violent faith and has been one from its birth.
This is not to say that Judaism and Christianity have not been violent and are not violent, but the exhortations to violence emanating from Islam, as well as the misogyny, chauvinism, xenophobia, and backwardness inherent to this faith are on full display not only in the Arab world, but in those places where Muslims have immigrated, such as Europe and the US.
What is beyond dispute are the facts that Muslims, by and large, ascribe to a faith that is rigid in its demands for submission (look up the impact of Sharia law in the UK, for instance), spreads its tenets through force, regardless of the mores of the host country (see the murder of prominent Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh) and produces horrific outcomes when its second generation, especially females, try to assimilate (Arab father runs over “Westernized” daughter in Glendale, AZ).
I would imagine someone of your ilk, who is solidly for “liberal progressive values” (and you actually mean “liberal DEMOCRATIC ideals”), would be declaiming in full voice about a religion that seeks to impose its will on others and remove their rights of free speech, due process of law, freedom to explore their sexuality, marry whom they choose regardless of sex, religion or ethnicity, etc, etc, etc.
For, Brian, if you’re going to castigate Christianity so savagely, shouldn’t you reserve as much ire for Islam? After all, you are for the rights of gays to marry, correct? You are for women’s rights, correct? You are for freedom of speech, that most basic and important right, correct? Fair trial and due process under law and the rule of law?
Or, are you just another bigoted hypocrite, too?

He’s baaaack!
Honestly, I don’t think you and I have much of a disagreement here dude.
When looking at the socio-political contexts of the three big abrahmic faiths, one is really struck at the differences of situations, and therefore the difference in their respective missions (as experienced–not necessarily as proscribed).
I mean Christianity started as a resistance movement against a very strong empire.
Islam started as a unifying faith during the dark ages in the absence of any unified political structure.
