GuestTo each his own. But the problem with master planned communities is uniformity of people.
But irvine is not bad. There is some density and diversity. Korean, chinese, Persian, etc..,
You don’t have to eat at Applebee’s and mimi’s cafe.golf course living is not my thing. For that, I go visit friends. Eating typical clubhouse food makes me feel like a senior citizen.
When I read the lifestyle columns of wapo and nyt, I want to know what it’s all about.
To me, luxury is not money, or grand surroundings, or being isolated in familiar safe comfort, but experiencing all the different things that life has to offer.August 15, 2013 at 1:34 PM #764459The-Shoveler
ParticipantI know of at least two really really good Asia buffets in TV.
also Pechanga has some really good restaurants if you want to go real fancy. But you get much better deals I think at the chain Steak/Fish houses.
But OK like you said to each their own.August 15, 2013 at 1:48 PM #764460FlyerInHi
GuestI recently ate at Tang 190, a korean restaurant in irvine with some friends. It’s not about fancy, but about being authentic. It’s actually a cheap restaurant with dishes about $10. Asia buffet is so 1980s or something you might encounter in Kansas City.
Yeah, to each his own.

ParticipantLOL, You will have to trust me on this, but I get authentic Asian food all the time…

GuestYeah, I trust you.
Just teasing… Temecula is not bad. I would stop by there on the way to Vegas from San Diego.
I can understand a family wanting to setup nest in Temecula, especially if they work there.
For the same budget, with wife and child, I’d rather live in a condo in north park. That is if I worked in San Diego.
Oh, i’ve also been to penchanga once. A buddy who’s an avid golfer got free room over there. It’s a big casino.

ParticipantThe-Shoveler: “downtown” SD is crap, I agree. If you want to live in a nice/walkable area you have your choice:
(1) North Park
(2) Uni Heights
(3) PB or OB
(4) South Park/Golden Hill
(5) Parts of coastal North County (read: Carlsbad, Encinitas, or even Oceanside).Downtown SD is the equivalent of parts of Midtown Manhattan or areas near Wall St. Great for business but deadski after hours.

ParticipantYea OK, those places are cool especially if you are young,
It’s just hard for me to consider those cities, more like beach resorts.Even Oceanside west of the I5 is real expensive these days.

Participant^^^
I don’t get all of the hatred leveled at the nicer urban/walkable and beach areas of San Diego on this site. Why can’t a livable city have nice beaches as well? — “city” and “beach resort” don’t need to be mutually exclusive, especially in a place like SD where the nice beaches aren’t an hour and a half out of town like in NY or Boston.
And imagine being able to take your kids for an evening bike ride, swim, or sail when you both get home from work and school. Instead of having them play video games and gradually turn into fat porkmuffins.
As far as price, people here routinely talk about dropping $500k to $1MM on housing inland, so what gives?
August 15, 2013 at 6:02 PM #764468The-Shoveler
ParticipantThere is no hate from me, I just don’t see the attraction, And I walk on the beach almost every weekend.
Well Price for me,
I have never dropped 500K or more on anything!!
Seems to me, (maybe I am wrong here) but anything you could buy that you could squeeze 4 people into that has a decent school district will run you well over 1M if it is walking distance to beach, (well you may be able to bike from Ocean Side for less than that, but there is also schools to think about)
Now renting is a different matter. Young single, no kids different subject as well.
But hey the minute I get a hold of a few million, del-mar here I come!!

ParticipantThree bedroom condos in PB under $500k are rare, but not exactly unheard of. Schools — use some creativity, if local public schools aren’t great, there are always Catholic schools.

Participant

So glad to have you back, scaredy! I’ve really missed your thoughtful posts.
I am already coming back a lot more since I saw scaredy. The site was so boring without TG, scaredy, flu and AN.
Yes, paramount still has the same insecure issue as when Temecula housing price was low. That’s nothing new. Scaredy on the other hand brings so much fun to the thread with his unique perspective.
You’re not going to cry, are you? Sorry, I obviously hurt your feelings somehow…

ParticipantIf there’s one thing I’ve noticed about a lot on piggs over the years is how out of touch with reality so many are – or maybe I’m too pragmatic.
Or maybe their reality is so much different from mine.
Since I got my 328 I can’t begin to count how many times I’ve heard haters say something like: BMW sucks, but, but…if I did drive one it would be a M3. And that’s it – a M3, period. 328 drivers are just posers.
Absolute idiots IMO (and no, I really don’t care what someone thinks about my 328).
Not unlike ctr70’s comment: Temecula sucks, murrieta sucks, everything sucks except where I am or where I can’t be.
I’m just happy to have a roof over my head, and maybe that mentality is why I am more or less poor.
From Ctr70: boring uninteresting people live in temecula, etc…what an ignorant trollish statement to make. What’s next, are you going to somehow draw a comparison between temecula and hitler?

ParticipantHitler was a bit too interesting for my (and my grandparents’) tastes…

Participanthttp://theweek.com/article/index/248281/its-not-your-imagination-bmw-drivers-are-the-biggest-jerks
not that this proves anything…but it is research…
the hypothesis was people who drive BMWs are actually jerks…
