No we really are bad neighbors. You’d get sick of us quickly.
But at least we are quiet
eerily quiet.
I did once get my neighbors refi appraisal dinged 5,000 about 7 years ag by parking my car on my lawn. He was mad.
October 7, 2011 at 7:44 AM #730233scaredyclassicParticipantI sought shade.
I also used to leave garbage bind out s couple days which got everyone on the cul de sac really pissed.
I am bad.
October 7, 2011 at 7:55 AM #730235The-ShovelerParticipantWe would get along just fine as neighbors WW , although the wife would probably get annoyed at the outdoor bucket thing,
I like visiting HOA area’s they look so well kept and all, but then I go home and live a normal life.October 7, 2011 at 7:55 AM #730236scaredyclassicParticipantNow we have six cats that sometimes trespass.
October 7, 2011 at 7:57 AM #730237The-ShovelerParticipanthmm the cat thing, maybe not.,

To be frank, I’m not sure you understand what a “redneck” really is. Plus, I find your sweeping generalizations about Morgan Hill (or any other area for that matter) pretty amusing. Even in the South, the home of actual rednecks, I met some of the most amazing, professional, and grounded people I’ve ever come across.
You might be surprised how cool many of the people you meet are, whether it’s in Temecula, San Diego, Charlotte, or Boston. It really depends on your attitude. Just my $.02.
I can’t say much about Morgan Hill – haven’t been over there in a while (I live in Crowne Hill.)
One day I was on a bike ride with the kids and checked out the models of the new places at Paseo Del Sol, across Butterfield Stage. They were nice but seemed very pricey for what you get.
We looked at those as well. We do like the lower tax rate in Paseo, and the fact that it still has an HOA to help ensure people keep up their yards, etc. Do you remember which builder you looked at in Paseo?
Don’t underestimate the additional costs of buying new. Window treatments, garage shelving, landscaping, etc., it all adds up!
I totally agree re: those “hidden” costs. Plus you’d have to include landscaping on this one, since they’re not doing the back. 🙁
October 7, 2011 at 8:02 AM #730239scaredyclassicParticipantI cannot say we will stop at six. My kids love cats beyond anything normal. We could gave a dozen cats by next year.
Person ally I’m with you I hate cats.
There are also three dogs.
And three kids. And their friends. And a lit of Airsoft weaponry.
October 7, 2011 at 8:13 AM #730241TemekuTParticipantI just returned from a week in New Bern NC. What a friendly place. I don’t care for the weather though.

Holy cow, TemekuT, you are right! I thought I knew what “hot” was, moving from Temecula, but we found out quickly that combining “hot” with “humid” can make things miserable there! It’s great in the fall / winter / spring, but there are about 3-4 months in the summer that are tough!
TemekuT, do you have any thoughts about Paseo del Sol v. Morgan Hill? I saw you had some input a few years ago on some of the older Morgan Hill threads, and would appreciate your perspectives. Even though I lived in the area, the last 6 years have been crazy and it’s way different now!
October 7, 2011 at 8:28 AM #730244scaredyclassicParticipantWouldn’t it just be best to try to get the best deal on any tract home of a certain age in temecula?
Kinda limits you to go by development doesn’t it?
October 7, 2011 at 10:53 AM #730254RenParticipantMy wife and I live near Redhawk, but will be moving back to the coast in 2013. Still, we like to tour new construction. The Estates seemed a little gaudy to us, maze-like inside, a waste of square footage. A good deal compared to SD, but expensive for Temecula. You might want to check out the Hemmingway development in Redhawk, also by Standard Pacific, where new homes are being built on the golf course. Smallish lots and the houses aren’t as big as the Estates (something like 2600sf+ I think), but the first model you walk into has an awesome Great Room, more appealing to us than those in the Estates. We’re professional house hunters, so we’ve seen a lot of them, and we loved it. If we end up building a custom, we’ll be copying that room.
But those California rooms are pretty cool…
As for rednecks, there are certainly more of the breed (Cali’s version of them, anyway) in Temecula than in SD – more lifted trucks, tattoos, bikers, etc., but in general, those rednecks are also FAR more friendly than people (hick OR white collar professional) in SD. This is what I will miss most when we move.
People who rip TV because of the weather have obviously never lived in phoenix, pretty much anywhere close to Texas , the mid-west or most of the east coast.
Or pretty much anywhere other than coastal SD..
Personally I kind of liked living out of the “everything going to get wet every morning” zone.
But I can see the attraction to cooler summers as well.October 7, 2011 at 6:24 PM #730289svelteParticipantA rickshaw?
October 7, 2011 at 8:34 PM #730291scaredyclassicParticipantYup. An all aluminum rickshaw. I believe in human power. I worked as a pedicab driver for a few weeks one Christmas at night in the 90s. It was so fun. I would like to do a pedicab or rickshaw business when I’m really old. I once read an article about a 90 year old Vietnamese guy who rode a pedicab. His family was really ashamed because they thought it was like a public statement he wasn’t cared for. Anyway that’s kind of a thing I like to think and read about. Human power.
HOA probably wouldn’t want it in the front yard.
