She’s shown herself to be very adept at the kingmaking aspect of Republican politics, and there is no denying her appeal, especially amongst the Tea Party set.
Tea Party?!?! They get Revolutionary War, “founding fathers”-type reverence.
Tea Baggers? Well, that is a different matter….
Shadowfax/Gandalf: So we’re clear: I am NOT endorsing anyone or anything having to do with the Tea Party. I was, however, making the point that Palin is more cunning and capable than she’s generally given credit for.
Watching her machinations as of late, I’m struck by the fact that she knows how to pull the various levers at the right time. No matter your thoughts about the Tea Party, it is viable in the sense that it commands votes and that ultimately is what the ball game is all about.
“Menstrual eskimo shit”. Dude. When it comes to truly inventive and innovative name calling, you remain a master. A Maestro of Misogny (said as a compliment).
And feel free to unload on the Tea Partiers to your heart’s content. I find them interesting largely due to the parallels between the 1890s and 1930s and today. Very interesting times we’re now in.
I agree with Allan on this one.
However, I see it slightly differently. I don’t believe that Palin is intelligent enough to have risen in politics on her own.
She benefited from good fortune when McCain chose her. Had she not left politics, the corruption in her Alaska government would have taken her down.
Now, she’s a media brand just like Glen Beck or Rush Limbaugh. A media brand is different from a skilled politician. Those characters play upon psychology and fear to get people riled up enough to vote against their own interests.
Tea Partiers would rather vote against the “liberal elite” whom they see as the enemy than vote for health care which they don’t themselves have.
I know this guy who lives in East County. Nice guy but his politics are strange, so I have to bite my tongue when I’m around him.
He’s a handy man and jack of all trades. He is voraciously anti Obama and health care reform. Recently he injured his leg and he’s without insurance.
The Tea Party interviews on youtube describe the state of affairs pretty accurately:

The Republicans have embraced the Tea Party and the two parties are intertwined. It’s indication that desperate times call for desperate measures from an ideology that’s on the wane.

September 16, 2010 at 5:57 AM #605243NewtoSanDiegoGuestWith the Tea Party’s HUGE showing in this week’s election, we are are now finally being taken seriously. We are now forming policy task groups at the local, state and national levels to address the key economic (housing, jobs, small business, growth) and social issues.
Implementation of the housing initiatives are expected to cause some disruption in the disfunctional status quo, but we expect it will result in a long term, healthy market that is supported by the private sector, not the government (Fannie, Freddie). Our massive and growing debt will require very large cuts across local, state and Federal governments. The only good government is a very small government as the Gipper said.
Are you with us or against us? Sometimes you need to take a stand. Are you mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore?
What additional housing policy initiatives do you believe will make a long term positive impact on the housing market?
NSD (your patriot, neighbor, family friend, church member, average guy who wants to make a difference. AND DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT)
