Whenever you see wide gap between lanes going in opposite directions you should assume that additional lanes will be added. That was the case with Camino Del Norte / Camino Del Sur, that will happen with Carmel Valley Road as well as Hwy 56 (I think the plan is to expand 56 to 4 lanes each way).
I don’t like Target there. I like high-density subdivisions that will fill in the space between the big box store and the high school even less.

You always see ways that citys want to get businesses in there since they generate a lot of sales taxes and there is no great planning for other revenues sources.
Per the Black Mountain Ranch Subarea Plan, it “designates approximately 29 percent of the community for residential development, 67 percent for parks, and open space, 2 percent for schools, and 2 percent for commercial and employment uses.”
We pay the highest Mello Roos taxes in the area and our Fire Dept. and Sheriff Dept services are currently funded/provided by SD County. The neighboring 4S Ranch community is all County funded – no SD City services. The new schools being are paid for by our Mello Roos taxes – Basically, little or no benefits from City of San Diego services – (Water/Electricity and park services?). Per the plan, City of SD will provide services in the North Village but on a small/limited scale. Seems there is not much need for tax revenue if we receive most of the services from the County. So if we add tax revenue from a store like Target, where will it go? To provide City services to Rancho Peñasquitos (our Community Planner Group for Black Mountain Ranch). This does not make sense – how the City of SD or Rancho Peñasquitos have the best interest of our community if they are not residents in our area or paying Mello Roos taxes?
January 21, 2014 at 6:24 PM #770033joecParticipantI honestly can’t say…but as we’ve seen with the Melo-Roos news (MR used to pay bills for non-MR schools/meetings/upgrades/etc), I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s used for other stuff that may not be as related.
There is no tax a politician doesn’t like. 🙂

When are they going to open that 99 cent store there?
I think they should go for a trifecta and add, for wings and beer, a Hooters just for completion. They do need more places to eat that are more family oriented….
There’s already a Hooters in West RB, next to the 15 :-)
No AN, they are closing that Hooters down. A real estate investor bought the shuttered Vagabond Inn next to it and the Hooters building, and wants to turn it into a hotel again I guess. So the Hooters is being relocated to San Marcos….
according to people who know… (not me… of course)….

Yeah. Those properties were purchased in Jan 2012 by HP-RB Hotel LP for a little over 3 million (looks like a Mom and Pop operation). The Hooters lease run until March 2016, but I’m sure they might be able to work something out prior to the end of the lease term.

Yep. EconProf I go to Home Depot at both of these locations mentioned and they are less than 10 miles to either. I don’t go to Home Depot too often so don’t mind them being a bit further out but it takes no time really to get there. I typically just go to the one in Mira Mesa. Just one exit down from us taking Black Mountain Road and then jumping on Westview which will go directly to Home Depot. Very quick.
I would actually welcome a Target in 4S Ranch. Like others, I much prefer it vs. a Walmart which I never go to. The nearest Target for us is either Mira Mesa but I typically just go to the one in Escondido in the Mall as it’s so big.

The one in Poway might be more convenient for you. Definitely less congestion on the surface streets than the one in Mira Mesa. Just get on 56 and drive east.January 23, 2014 at 12:44 PM #770115EssbeeParticipantIt might be even easier to just go from Camino del Sur to where it turns into Camino del Norte, then cross the freeway and turn R onto Pomerado.
October 6, 2015 at 2:16 PM #789947EssbeeParticipantThe new Del Sur Target opens tonight, 5PM-9PM, then again tomorrow morning!
