Suggestions for muddy weed filled back yard

When I moved the backyard had 4 feet high weeds which I pulled out and killed by hand. The summer lack of rain took care of the stragglers.

Now they are coming back, especially Italian ryegrass and even worse stinging nettle.

Both these plants surround any new landscaping I put in and are a pain to pull out, in the case of the nettle literally painful without wearing thick gloves.

Any suggestions? There was a small Bermuda grass part of the yard that was also overrun with these two weeds. I improved it by pullin out the weeds and the grass partially recovered, but now it has happened again and there are these same two weeds poking out everywhere. I suspect they put out some sort of poison to hurt the grass since I know many weeds do this.

If I have to resort to a herbicide, what is safest and most effective for yard use?

weed killer? That would kill them and keep them away for at least 1/2 a year to a year. You just need to spray every year to keep them away.

Nothing to comment on the Rye…

However for the rest of the weed use Weed-B-Gone. It is say to use around greadd because what the use to kill the weed is iron I believe. I could be wrong though… Point is that the active ingrediant kills weeds but feeds lawn. I had a bad weed point problem and applied several aplications for a several weeks in a row. I still get weeds but the problem is very minimal now.

How large is the area involved? Is it just the grass? Or other area of the yard? Are we just looking at bare ground? Or is the area woodchipped? did you place weed barriers? Weedkiller should do the job, but if the area involved is broad, you may need other strategies.

My god! I wasn’t drunk when I wrote the above…

Anyway… Use the weed-b-gone with the spray applicator / Hose attachment… Works like a champ.
