“When people don’t get along in a relationship they should just kill each other”
It’s kind of a relief that they found out he was this crazy after what he did in Ferguson. What if there was no proof that he was anything but normal?
Sure there are a lot of messed up cops though. I think some of them In LA would be gang bangers if not cops. Maybe some of them would have been skinheads too. It looks like a lot of them would be soldiers if not cops or were previously soldiers. Hmm should I join or stay in the ARMY or be a police officer? We should be grateful that those are not our two best career choices. Maybe we should make a quota that a certain amount of police new hires had to have formerly been kindergarten teachers or florists.
August 24, 2014 at 8:35 AM #777591NotCrankyParticipantIn a nice neighborhood a school teacher would probably make a good cop.
August 24, 2014 at 9:30 AM #777592spdrunParticipant^^^ That would be a good movie script … oh wait. I guess not every cop can be Ahhhhhnold.
How about making an effort to hire cops from the neighborhoods that they will police, and requiring them to live in the same town that they work in? One is less likely to hate the people whom they interact with if you interact with them outside of the job.
As to the idiot who went on a rant, maybe he should look in a mirror and start shooting at the person in front of him. Sounds like a healthy dose of meth-crazed self-hatred there.
How does he reconcile “defending the Constitution” with wanton murder anyway?

same way you reconcile Christianity with killing Muslims. You don’t read or listen too carefully and just kinda assume it means whatever you think it should mean.
August 24, 2014 at 10:01 AM #777595FlyerInHiGuestWe seem to be in agreement in some ways, Blogstar. The difference is you seem to be saying oh well, cops aren’t former kinder garden teachers, so what do you expect?
Speaking of culture, why don’t they have that kind of problem in Europe? Because their culture regarding police is not the same as our Rambo style culture of violence within police departments.
August 24, 2014 at 10:48 AM #777596NotCrankyParticipant^^^^Actually, I was pretty much just satirizing the situation, it’s fucking awful.
I think I am more circumspect and insightful than you.. I actually score democrat on tests, still I don’t think one should get too bogged down in their isms.
The two parties are like separate mafias, the obvious result is that we can’t have much compromise between them. But it also means that there is no room for independent thought within each of them either. Which means both parties are tyrannical. Tyranny and democracy are incompatible…so you can’t even say we are a democracy neither of the parties are even democratic. I am afraid the public is just going to be more a more battered divided by the mafia dysfunction. What we are seeing now with the races is part of it. Probably fall of Rome stuff.
August 24, 2014 at 11:25 AM #777601NotCrankyParticipantG-d and Jesus couldn’t police many areas in the U.S. in the current era.
August 24, 2014 at 11:26 AM #777600NotCrankyParticipantdel.
August 24, 2014 at 11:43 AM #777602spdrunParticipantActively doing and saying things that annoy the people being policed (rather than just policing them) won’t help G-d and Sonny Jesus in this quest. It’s hard to police an area with a large concentration of crims. It’s impossible if even the decent people come to dislike you.

Yeah even G-d and Jesus would become unlikeable by the nice people if they tried to do the policing for a while. That’s what I have been saying you either become weak and ineffective, or not nice or worse….you try it.August 24, 2014 at 12:06 PM #777604spdrunParticipantWhat about being effective, but not going out of one’s way to be an arsehole as this guy seems to have done? Or if you do, make sure it’s not being recorded for posterity.
BTW, one example is the second guy shot by cops in St. Louis. He was holding what looked to be a tiny knife down and yelling “shoot me! kill me!” Instead of treating him like the loony he was, and retreating back into their truck while trying to talk him down or call for backup with Tasers, the cops chose to yell, then empty nine or ten shots into him.
It shouldn’t always be a matter of “winning” the situation, but of creating an outcome where carnage is minimized.
Interestingly, speaking of hated professions, traffic agent cops (the people who direct traffic and give out fines, probably one of the most ungrateful jobs) are unarmed in NYC. You don’t hear of them dropping like flies from gunfire.

I hate when they shoot someone like that too…taking the particulars on your word. The only popular cop in a very bad neighborhood is going to be one who doesn’t do his job at all or worse is corrupt . That’s what I am talking about.
August 24, 2014 at 12:14 PM #777606spdrunParticipantDisagreed. The majority of people living in bad areas are potential victims who live there out of economic necessity, not the criminals who exploit them.
