SDR: Yup, the war in the trenches decides the game, as illustrated by the number of winning playoff teams that run the ball effectively and play stout defense.
I have to tell you I was laughing my ass off during that Bolts – Raiders game. I’m a huge fan of 1 gap defenses as a youth coach (because its simple and easily coached), and there were the Oakland Raiders, a pro team, running a 1 gap defense against the Chargers and IT WAS WORKING!
Unfortunately, Al Davis is too loyal to “his” guys, and JaMarcus is one of “his” guys, so we’re saddled this with this JaMoke for the rest of the season. We get some lucky breaks, we’ll go 7 – 9, otherwise its a 5 – 11 or 6 – 10 year.
You guys, on the other hand, have so much freakin’ talent and AJ Smith has just squandered it away. Yeah, that Ray Lewis hit on Sproles was obvious; Lewis has spent a career bringing the hat on those type plays (he commented after, saying it was one of the best hits of his career), but the Chargers play calling is making them damn near transparent to good D coordinators (like NE, Pittsburgh, Baltimore).
I’ll tell you the one team that no one is watching closely (in the NFC) and I think they’re poised to push deep into the playoffs, is N’awlins. How in the f**king hell did you guys ever lose Brees? Seriously, he is a friggin’ machine and has so many weapons. Watch out.
So? Baltimore and New Orleans in the big game? And, where’s TG? Is he hiding out after that Chargers game?

September 21, 2009 at 9:47 PM #459934SD RealtorParticipantNo the saints are not hiding anywhere. They are damn scary good right now. I mean they rolled up the eagles like they were pasties and that eagle d is not as bad as they made them look. I agree with you about them. vikings look pretty tough as well. I can see a steeler saints super bowl shaping up pretty nice….even the jets are making me think a bit. Nice coach them jets have… hmmmmm… I don’t see the ravens making it through the playoffs. I see them making the playoffs though. I like the running game they have, good o and d lines… I like flaco as well… like you said though the ravens d backfield was exposed.
True about the bolts transparency. Yet even if you know what they will do, jackson, floyd and gates are so damn big you can say yeah screw it, here is what we are gonna do, you try to stop it. The sproles long td was made because jackson picked off ray lewis… it was a gem.
To bad though… if the bolts did have the raiders line, EITHER of the raiders lines, they would be scary good.

September 21, 2009 at 9:57 PM #459939temeculaguyParticipantplnrboy, I assure you, you are not alone in your disdain for Norv. This will mark my third season on this site hijacking threads with allan and SD, to discuss football and I feel it is like dejavu all over again that my ire is still directed at the same guy.
Some gems from 2007 and 2008, take special notice of the dates as some threads span two seasons and they are eerily topical, as if they could have been written yesterday.

Just do a search for the word “norv” and you will see that many of us have been diagnosed with norv turner rage for going on three years.
Allan, SD is right, oakland’s O and D line are superb, if they ever get a quarterback and/or a new owner, you can have your glory days back. I like their new coach, he was a lineman and puts emphasis on the line as his starting point for rebuilding, I wonder what the over/under is on Al firing him. Until then, just enjoy singletary, I know i do, not that I am a big fan of that team but I like to root for them because it fills a void in my life, that void is the feeling of confidence in a leader, something we chargers fans have but a distant memory of. With jamal out and olshansky in dallas (doing a fine job btw) the d line sucks, injuries in week one took out 40% of the O line, I’m readying my throwing arm and eyeing the towel. They usually start slow, so this is almost expected, plus Baltimore is the real deal. But even if they make the playoffs, I dont trust norv. Norv is like tequilla, if every time you drink it, you are happy for a little while and then vomit, it gets harder and harder to try it again, to the point that even the smell makes you want to vomit. Knowing what it is like to be a Cubs fan was not on my christmas list, yet it keeps showing up under the tree.
There are 35 days and 21 hours until the start of the NBA season, I’ll miss Ariza but am excited to see how Artest blends in.
David Stern and Dr. Buss would like to thank norv turner, he is at the helm of the only pro football team in driving range of 20 million people and no player in purple and gold can be credited with bringing in more fans than Norv.
