PC, the last thing a patient in the hinterlands needs is an unqualified affirmative action physician botching the diagnosis and treatment.

Medicine is a demanding profession. Enough mistakes happen already: the Institute of Medicine estimated that 100K people die per year from mistakes in care.

Don’t lower the standards so that liberal white folks can feel good about themselves.

For folks who don’t get into UC, and who are ‘banished’ to the Cal State system or community college, life is not over. In the Krueger paper on determinants of income, whether you went to an Ivy league school or not did not matter. What mattered was the person’s SAT and indicators of work ethic (Asian, top 10% of high school class, athlete). Even then, r-squared was only 33%.

To heck with affirmative action. Work hard and you’ll do fine, no matter your color. If you’re bright, too, you’ll do even better.

Looks like the Dems will get the Senate too.

Allen will lose unless there is a large military absentee count, but I believe VA counts those right away so they are already in.

Talent is poised to lose MO now that inner city votes are coming in, and Montana will go Dem.

Pat Buchanan said on MSNBC, it seems to be more of an anti-bush vote than a mandate for liberalism as most of the big issues (affirmative action in Mich, 86 and 87 in CA) are going.

GOP will have to regroup, and their poster boy for 2008 can’t even win his Senate race? Think again.

JES: every time I hear terms like Christian values, socially conservative, Republican party, etc., guess what images pop up in my mind? Ted Haggard and the ones before him, like Foley and…ohmygosh, there are so many. You guys need to go away and clean up your lives before you try to run other people’s lives. And as has been said for years, if you don’t like abortions, don’t have one. Oh, yeah, you couldn’t get pregnant anyway being male, so stay out of women’s lives. The bashing of PowaySeller doesn’t seem to have political overtones. Some of us well-educated but nevertheless neanderthal conservatives do not bash Powayseller. That is to say belief in the housing bubble seems to be neither a Dem or Rep issue.

I love politics and generally the drama of life. It’s better than watching the sitcoms.

It’s always fun to watch the most voracious morally correct people go down in flames. Very interesting watching conservatives asking for forgiveness for Haggard when they generally condemn sinners to “burn in eternal hell.” If it weren’t for their judgemental values, Haggard wouldn’t have needed to have sex in hiding. I’m not gay but what’s so “repulsive and dark” about gay sex? Such thinking causes lifetime suffering rather than saving souls.

A friend of mine is a PhD student in psychology. They are now psychoanalyzing Haggard. So I get to hear about the whole affair.

Ha! I actually laughed out loud at that. Not because it’s funny, but because you actually think that republicans are better for the economy than democrats. The borrow and spend republicans will have our grandchildren paying for their mistakes and their pork. That is sick.

The demise of the economy will come regardless of who is in power. The Democratic party will have the unfortunate position of standing watch while it does and shouldering the blame for damage set in progress over the last several years. In 2010, the Republicans will roar back into power after convincing Americans that the economic pain they have experienced is due to the Democrats resting control of the country in 2006. And….so…..it….goes………
