It would be a great deal for California. Californians would have more representation in Congress.
Not in the House, but they would in the Senate.

Specifically the Senate. Probably wouldn’t change the House representation *too* much.
It would basically hand the Democrats permanent control of the Senate, which is why it will never actually happen. It would also add more D than R electoral votes, but that’s a bit more marginal; an extra +6 blue EV is about the effect of New Hampshire.
It’s interesting that splitting the state is an effort led by Tim Draper, a Republican who thinks that more states would benefit Republicans.

Splitting into six is pretty ridiculous.
If we’re gonna get silly like that, I suggest we name the new states Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby, and Cindy.
