I’m a long time reader but I agree that lately there has been too much religion and politics. I used to like to read the forum posts for the helpful information about the real estate market. I’ve noticed the quality is slipping. I think I will just check in for Rich’s posts from now on.

Anyone who voted for Bush (either time, but especially the second, has got to be feeling like a poo-poo head loser). Everything the opposition warned about has come to fruition. The information was all there. Nothing “new” or unexpected has happened.
Politics is absolutely linked to RE. The mood of the people is an important barometer… as is their optimism or pessimism.
Scott Ritter was right…

July 3, 2007 at 12:25 PM #63637PDParticipantSo jg, Perry and lostkitty think all this religion and politics talk is wonderful. Big surprise, they are the worst offenders.
I still think that this off-topic talk is driving away interest and RE postings on this blog. I do not think the fall in posting volume has been caused by a lack of movement or information in RE or the economy. There has been a lot happening there. Inventory is up, pendings are down, NODs and NOTs are going up, credit is tightening, big stuff is happening with hedge funds (Bear Sterns), etc, etc. I really think that most people don’t want to hear all this blathering about religion and politics.
If you really must incessantly beat your drum, could you please refrain from hi-jacking RE threads where the unsuspecting person gets cold-cocked while innocently reading?

July 3, 2007 at 12:30 PM #63639AnonymousGuestPD, why are you summarizing inventory, pendings, NODs, etc. on this thread?
Just joking, PD.
You call it hijacking. I call inserting a tangentially-related — but related — comment. You may not find such illuminating or amusing. Oh well.
Hey, if it’s not about resale homes in La Jolla’s older neighborhoods, I don’t want to hear about it!

This place has been slow since the very day powayseller was run off for the last time.
She was constantly adding information that we read and discussed on real estate. Rich provided the foundation, and keeps us up on big changes, but she was doing the everyday adding to the site. Boldly interpreting it as she saw fit. it did give us a lot to talk about…. whether we agreed with it all or not.
Interestingly enough, she was another of the active debaters of politics and religion. It did not slow up the conversation on real estate though, so you cannot say now that the reason this place is slow now is because of the off-topic conversation. We’ve all got time on our hands as we sit and watch, wait.
Big deal if we talk amongst ourselves.
I personally find the banter enlightening.Back to my packing for San Diego!

July 3, 2007 at 2:55 PM #63690nooneParticipantI too was irritated when a thread went on for 10 pages of my god is better than your god, and my president is better than your president. But now I’m enjoying it. Emotions run hot and jg stokes the flames better than anyone. The problem is that anyone who’s been on this board for a while realizes what’s going on, and it’s just a waiting game. The only “new” housing news these days comes in monthly. The rest of the time there’s not much else to talk about.

July 3, 2007 at 5:16 PM #63736PerryChaseParticipantI do think the level of real estate discourse throttling down a notch on Piggington is due to the mainstream media being all over real estate stories. What’s there left to talk about when all the papers are writing about real estate?
I remember about 1 1/2 years ago mentioning on Piggington that buyers were lying on their loan applications. I was accused of being a low-life and suggesting illegal things. Well, it turns out most of the recent sales were done with liar loans.
Everyday, I know check patrick.net for the latest news. and I do and RSS of Roubini’s daily digest, Calculated Risk and the Big Picture. That gives me all the real estate news that I need.
For entertainment purposes, I also do an RSS of OCrenter’s excellent blog and some other blogs.
Piggington is useful for San Diego specific information. And unlike Ben’s blog, Piggington has a give-and-take and feedback among posters.
To me the politics is fun and entertainment. I’m sitting-back, relaxing and enjoying the show — the implosion of real estate and the Bush Administration.
