Hey zzz,
You’re totally welcome. I know many people read Flyertalk (which is an EXCELLENT resource) but many people still overlook the Bank Direct and BBVA programs. I think BBVA isn’t offering that miles to new members (I was grandfathered in from when it was Guaranty Bank).
I know the program in it’s current form would change once interest rates were so low. But it’s still not a bad deal for those that have tons of cash in very low paying interest accounts.
It’s great. I’ve earned millions of miles over the years with that program. As you probably know from reading Flyertalk, once you hit 1 million program miles with American you get Gold status for life. Once you hit 2 million miles you get Platinum for life. So for those that have lots of cash on the sidelines..it’s an easy way to earn towards those goals. Of course there is talk they will change the program so not sure how long it will last. I made Platinum for life many years ago.
I did enough butt in seat miles years ago to make Platinum for life but the nice thing is each 1 million miles you get, American also gives you 4 system wide upgrades to upgrade to business/first. I do a lot of international travel so these are really great!
Anyone parking large amounts of cash in low interest CD’s or savings accounts should think about Bank Direct’s program. You gotta factor in these miles are tax free and it’s a nice perk.
