(Incidentally, I would add to the list of official wrong-doing and to the one entry for the President, the fact that Mr Bush vetoed the detailed proposals from the states’ attorneys-generals in the early 2000s to regulate mortgage brokers more strongly across the USA. That decision alone must have had a major role in exacerbating the sub-prime element of the house price bubble and hence the extent of current foreclosures.)
