Two years of looking at pine trees and rain and he is on the brink.Wants to move bad down to Socal but can not afford to now, poor guy.

February 25, 2009 at 6:59 AM #355018AnonymousGuestSedona/Prescott/Flagstaff is a nice area. I spend quite a lot of time there. I considered it initially for my move out of California, but after some research and an extended stay in the area I decided it would be better in my situation to have a primary residence somewhere else and to purchase a second property in Northern AZ.
Pros
Beautiful Scenary, low crime, little traffic in the winter time, relatively close to Phoenix w/o the high temps in the summerCons
It is small town living, there just really isn’t a whole lot there. Flagstaff to the North is small and a lot like Northern California in terms of culture and attitude. I found it very nice in small doses but think it would drive me crazy after an extended time. Also, there are very few good job opportunities there. My decision was (is) to purchase in NV to take advantage of the low taxes and relatively low interference from the State government, and to buy a property in Northern AZ for use in the summer time. For me, this seems to be the best of both worlds.
Another advantage of this approach, at least for me, is that I will still be in relatively close proximity to Southern California. Since I still conduct a fair amount of business here that is an advantage and it will allow me to enjoy the nice things here w/o the high costs associated with living in California and being subject to the inane decisions (or indecisions) coming from our State Government.
The key thing to remember is that we all need to buy lifestyle. No matter how inexpensive the real estate or beautiful the landscape we’ll all be unhappy if we don’t like the people and have nothing interesting to do. We can’t just react in a kneejerk fashion to the contiued bad decisions coming from Sacramento. We all need to take some time to find a location that fits in well with who we are and how we want to live.

February 25, 2009 at 10:11 AM #35494034f3f3fParticipantTurtle, thanks for the useful thoughts. I agree about NV, but may I ask where you are looking to buy there. Is there anywhere apart from Las Vegas?
