If it weren’t for immigration (much of it illegal), our nation’s population growth would probably be flat or declining, like most other developed nations. I think there are probably too many people on the planet right now anyway. The only problem is, economically it’s problematic to have a declining population with a lot of older people and few working age people.
I’m wondering if the powers that be are allowing illegal immigrants to come into the country, knowing that they and their children, once given amnesty, will someday be the ones to keep the social security system going. Has anyone else thought this way? Will it work?
August 5, 2006 at 7:24 PM #30874PerryChaseParticipantWithout immigrants, population would be flat and the economy would not grow much either. Immigration benefits people at the top because they own all the wealth and asset appreciation benefits them most.
We want our businesses to be competitive so we need to feed them workers. That’s one reason our economy is robust compared to other developed countries’.
Established citizens usually benefit from population growth because they own assets such as land and housing that new arrivals have to purchase.

Interesting….

Native, barnaby33 is single, and after seeing his parents’ multiple marriages and divorces (and probably a lot of stepbrothers and stepsisters along the way), who can blame him for his bitterness about marriage and children? Go easy on him; he’s a real nice guy.

Okay, you summed it up. My parents are still married so I have no idea what that would be like.Everyone here does seem nice. I’ve learned a lot from this website and hopefully I’ll learn more. I guess I just had one of those “mother hen” type of moments. 🙂
August 6, 2006 at 2:15 AM #30904SD RealtorParticipantbarnaby33 as a relatively new parent I really cannot understate your words. To be honest guys, I really cannot put purchasing a home anywhere close to having a child. In my opinion it is like driving to the park verses flying to the moon. Seriously, they cannot even be in the same conversation. While it is important to be financially stable but I have seen some f**d up rich families and some very poor but very loving families.
