ParticipantSeriously I think I would have a very hard time giving up coffee in the morning and beer at night.
Oh well I guess there is always decaf and non-Alcoholic Beer.

ParticipantYou will have no trouble stopping once you are done. But if you are not done, it will be almost impossible to stop.

You never tried beer+coffee in the morning?

Me too. But the body adapts. You will live to poop again, even without arabica beans
Here’s what the official Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints website has to say:
In Mormon Doctrine and Covenants 89:8–9, the Lord forbids our using tobacco and “hot drinks,” which, Church leaders have explained, means tea and coffee. Modern prophets and apostles have frequently taught that the Word of Wisdom warns us against substances that can harm us or enslave us to addiction.
The official guidance also suggests never ordering at coffee shops or asking if there’s coffee in any drink.
Dammit. I still want some green tea…also, I did some research…the ban on hot drinks also include iced coffee, but excludes hot chocolate. So much for literal scriptural interpretation.

ParticipantYou get some nasty headaches? I found I was drinking way too much at work, so I basically stopped after two cups and just have decaf the rest of the day.
I’ve thought about quitting recently after I heard a Michael Pollan interview about his experiences giving it up. He said it was basically all downsides, but the one good thing was he slept way better. His latest book has a whole section on caffeine that I’ve been meaning to read.

ParticipantI drink coffee black because I just like the taste. Decaf is fine with me. Tastes better than beer imho.

ParticipantI’ve never had a cup of coffee in my life. Ever. I’ve had a sip and it tasted so putrid I never was even tempted.
It was only about 10 years ago I figured out I should cut out all forms of caffeine (I was a big tea drinker). So 10 years ago I dropped tea. I’ve never been much for soda but if I’m ever backed into a position where that’s the only choice I’ll drink Root Beer. And yes I know not all RB is caffeine free – I check first.
Truthfully the only difference I noticed was that it was easier to fall asleep once I went caffeine-free. Still not incredibly easy for me, but a bit easier.

Participantlike everything else in life, moderation of stuff is good. Excessive stuff is bad…
Just like wine has health benefits in moderation.
I’ll take my coffee, black, no sugar , no cream.

ParticipantAh, but caffeine has been associated with lesser risk of Alzheimer’s: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20182054/
Tumeric and marijuana have been similarly classified.*
Thus I put tumeric in my coffee in the morning, and smoke a joint with it for good measure.
*You can Google this all and do your own research. In all seriousness, the evidence for all three seems scanty at best. On the other hand, having watched my mom die from this horrible disease, I’d swallow bleach if I thought there was a reasonable chance it would prevent it.

I should clarify my problem is moderation. I do not have 1 or 2 cups of coffee. I drink giant mugs of it all day long. If I could have 1 or 2, I would be fine with that. But I cannot. Same with alcohol. So essentially it’s taken me 60 years to see I can’t control myself unless I use none.
I do however take 2 caps of turmeric every day. I believe in turmeric!!! Under control, no urge to take more turmeric. Weed, no, I fall right to sleep. Not fun. Didn’t have this effect when I was 20.
