drunkle
Participanti’d bet that the reduced amount of construction traffic has a lot to do with it; dirt haulers, wide load flatbeds hauling back whores and manufake homes… but yeah, it’s probably the mexicans.

ParticipantWho cares what is causing it, it’s fantastic. Bring on $5 gas and open up those freeways. Maybe by the time they open all the new toll lanes on the 15 you won’t even need it.
Let’s see, less traffic, less trucks, SUV’s and 4×4’s, less emissions, cheap cars are cool again, I rarely see 1970’s beaters spewing smoke in front of me or people hauling boats and toy haulers, fewer rock trucks chipping my windshield. Let’s not forget that it is destroying home values in the exhurbs. I’m sorry, what is so bad about $5 gas again?
Soon there will be some study that comes out that says Americans don’t actually spend more of their money on gas in total, but use less gas and spend about the same.

ParticipantI’d love to see $10/gallon gasoline. It would cause short term pain, but eventually most of us would get used to taking the “school bus” to work just like we did when we were kids.
It’s not like I (or most anyone else) has to drive to work every day. We just do it because taking public transportation to work is such a hassle. Double the price of gas and many, many more people will make that sacrifice of getting up a half hour earlier to catch the bus or the train or whatever. There will be a short-term shortage of mass-transit vehicles, but the free market will fix that soon enough.
More expensive fuel/energy leads to a much better society in my opinion. Much less waste, pollution, and conspicous consumption and more focus on things that actually matter.
