I made the mistake of thinking that the Internet would make people better informed decision makers. I think that the Internet has given people like the Piggingtons’ access to tools to share data and ideas, and somebody with an open mind can take that and make an informed decision. The other 99% of the population still just goes with whatever they hear and read in the popular media, or what their friends and colleagues parrot from the popular media. Of course we know that Real Estate and related industries advertise heavily in the media, and the government wasn’t about to go on television and say that housing is a huge bubble, so it isn’t a surprise that this got extended so far.
I’m thinking it’ll probably always be like this.December 27, 2007 at 4:04 PM #125383DoofratParticipantI made the mistake of thinking that the Internet would make people better informed decision makers. For instance, people can now easily search online for all the homes of a certain type in a certain area, in a price range. They can see the number and quality of choices change. But not everyone does this, and people used to learn from friends, agents and MSM, so it’s an evolutionary change, not revolutionary.

actual reading on the internet is not something the majority do…
meaning they will glance at headlines and blurbs… the majority still are crappy readers unable to LEARN NEW material from reading… thus, despite many informative sites with much information that could, under the right circumstances be enlightening, most will remain in the dark and respond to those who bark loudest on foxnews…
