I would like to rent a condo in Little Italy for about 6 to 12 months to see if I like living there, before I think about buying. I don’t want to pay more than $1,000 per month. I would be happy with a decent sized studio, as long as it’s in a newer building.
Are there agencies that handle downtown rentals? I would prefer to go through a professional management company instead of renting directly from an owner. I’m worried about getting ripped off, paying my security deposit and than never seeing the owner again, as they walk away from their pre-foreclosure unit. (Am I being overly paranoid?)
I know $1,000 is pretty low for a downtown rental, but I have good credit, am quiet, clean and dependable. I’m hoping to find an owner who has been trying to sell but has realized they can’t get what they want, and would be prefer to get 1,000 a month instead of letting it sit empty while they wait for the market to turn around.
You might be able to find something for $1,200 per month in a new-ish building, but it will probably be a 500-600 sq. ft. studio on a lower floor with no view. You’ll get a good idea of what your options are on craigslist. If you can’t find what you’re looking for there, it might not exist.
I’ve been looking to rent in PB, Downtown and Mission Valley for months. I think davej has the price and square footage right, but most of the stuff I saw on Craigslist was for areas surrounding downtown. I’m trying to move from Las Vegas and it took me 4 days driving around town to finally end up in MV. If you are currently living in town, I’d suggest walking on-site to some of the places you are interested in and bring your cell phone with you. Good luck!
