Back in high school, I recall 12th grade second half of the year was called “flake-off for the rest of the year day”. Most of us already knew where were were going, and provided. I don’t think the admissions dept at the universities really cared. At least, the ivy league schools didn’t. Then again, most of us ended up just taking easy B or A classes in the second half.
Teachers were kinda cool because they understood, and a lot of them would just say screw it and give you the B—— instead of the C.
I remember senior year doing Calc B/C and the teacher first week, would flunk the majority of the students to weed them out….For the remainder of the year, he just kinda ended up giving everyone a B- for effort, and you only got an A if you really could do the work. Then again, everyone in his class got a 5 on the AP exam. You were really retarded if you didn’t.

Actually, that wasn’t the case for me. Most of the AP classes senior year, you were weeded out the first week or two. If you stayed, it actually was easier.
Back when I was in h.s. , some of the teachers also had also said that if you got a “4”, they would go back and change your grade to an A for 1 semester. And if you got a “5”, they would change your grade for both semesters to an A. So for some of the AP classes, I took in 11th grade, because it was an almost guarenteed A once you ace the AP exam. The rest done in 12th grade, all you needed to do was survive the first or second week…
February 1, 2012 at 7:09 PM #737203scaredyclassicParticipantThey still do that. My kid got c’s in ap chem then got a 5 on the ap test and got retroactive a’s. I was kind of impressed w his ability to pull it together.

I don’t know about that. Maybe AP class is much harder now than when I went to HS, but when I slack in regular class, I get an A and depend on the teacher but I can slack in an AP class and still get an A or B. I must really try to get C or below. HS ain’t hard even at the AP level. I say JC is much tougher than AP and have much higher competitions. If your kids truly wants to push the boundary of their capability, take JC class during HS. It will prepare you much more than AP ever will.February 2, 2012 at 12:00 AM #737221temeculaguyParticipantNow that I’ve had a day or two to mull it over, perhaps I overlooked the airport noise at liberty. Like sdrealtor, my visits to winesteals made me think that being able to walk home would be awesome and it looked nice.
But the North Park/South Park thing is probably best for your situation. I liked the areas closer to the park and I like South park. I was there last year drinking at some really cool outdoorish casual restaraunt that had a sand lot, playground kinda thing and there was a little league team having it’s after game party. I was on a date with a woman who had never had children and who would never live anywhere that wasn’t considered urban and she had stars in her eyes seeing families dominating a fairly urban area (of course I was seeing more red flags than than a moscow parade spectator, it’s a good thing I love my dogs and got spayed and nutuered with them). But now that I can put in perspective, that would be a good compromise for what the Op is looking for.
For clarification, my name says temecula, but I would never reccomend it to you based on what you were looking for and walter is or king of tangents, he wasn’t serious. You wont find it all, youll find acceptable amounts of what you want and what you need, but I think you might find something close in that area, you just need to be picky and do your research, a few streets one way or another can make a huge difference.
You will be giving up one thing though, all the really hot single dads are out in the burbs, at least that what I have posted on my ads.

Lordy, TG . . . . I just choked on my coffee! Did you ever think the “ads” you’re posting might be attracting the wrong kind of gal? Why don’t you expand your age limit out of the 25-35 yo set ;=D

February 2, 2012 at 10:36 AM #737253briansd1GuestJust curious, how much is a taxi ride from Temecula to the airport? Is there a shuttle service that serivices the area?
I still think Liberty Station is better than North Park for a single mom. sdrealtor is right that the airport noise might not be a big deal for an east coast girl who’s used to trains, etc…
In Philly, buses and trucks go right in front of my house, and you can hear a rumble everytime. I’m used to it now.
North Park houses are old and there’s no way a single mom who travels a lot wants to deal with all the maintenance and home improvement issues.
February 2, 2012 at 11:01 AM #737254scaredyclassicParticipantUrbanity is overrated.
Why not visit temecula? I think it’s in the childs best interests?
Send TG a message and he will show you around.
February 2, 2012 at 11:02 AM #737255scaredyclassicParticipantI remember lots of women saying they didn’t want children at the outset.
Many lied.
February 2, 2012 at 11:27 AM #737257blahblahblahParticipantSome thoughts:
* If you are well-to-do, go to Mission Hills
* North Park/South Park/Hillcrest/University Heights/Kensington are where you want to be otherwise
* Also Normal Heights (north of adams) is pretty cool
* Avoid downtown
* Liberty Station is nice, convenient and dull. I wouldn’t want to live there.
There are great condos in Hillcrest, prices are lower than in years as are interest rates. SFHs are more expensive and will probably have maintenance issues. That’s okay though because the weather is fine and it doesn’t rain much so a house with some issues here isn’t so bad, really.
Not sure about the school situation. There are a lot of low-income kids in this area, scores may not be the best, etc… But at least they don’t have lots of money to spend on drugs and cars paid for by their parents like they do in the “good” school districts.

This is believable, scaredy. HOWEVER, they are wasting their time with a date who’s gone thru the local “spay/neuter” program. These lying dates might have a slightly better chance of a lasting relationship with dates who have the ability to be future parents, lol.
In the same vein, those daters who have gone thru the “spay/neuter” program should be up front about that fact when they are communicating with a potential date PRIOR to even meeting them! Obviously, children or lack thereof will be discussed at this time … that is, unless the “daters” in question are simply seeking a “casual encounter” :=]
And no, I do not have any ads out for a date.

Good advice, CONCHO.
IIRC, pemeliza posted that Grant Elementary in MH (K-8) was a great school! Not sure about the boundaries for that school. Maybe he can help.
In addition, HTH, Pt Loma HS and SDHS are ALL in the attendance area of Hillcrest/MH. This means transportation may possibly be available from points in 92103 to these schools.
