The secret to happiness is low expectations.
Wannting it all is not likely to end well.
January 31, 2012 at 6:48 PM #737110SD RealtorParticipantMy suggestion would be to come and rent for awhile and get to know the city. Taking a description from an internet blog can be helpful but I would not limit myself to it. I also know plenty of transplants that wanted one thing when they came out and when they spent time here, they ended up locating in parts of the county that they never even thought about. You may find that you are enchanted with a north county coastal area or want the Poway schools after you spend time here. Nothing wrong with taking walks on the beach every day or two.
Spend some time, check it out, then decide.

Buying is a house is a big decision. It is best done after careful and long consideration.

You can either walk to a store/bar/coffee shop or you can walk to a good school, rarely can you do both at the same time, and when you can, you can’t buy for 500k.[/quote]
We’re still struggling with this fact. Sadly we’re probably going to have to throw in the towel and go with safety and good schools over character and culture. Hopefully in 7-10 years we can afford that 600k price point.January 31, 2012 at 8:03 PM #737113RicechexParticipantCheck out Allied Gardens and Rolando. They are close enough for “urban” but mostly SFR. Better schools, and in your price range.
January 31, 2012 at 8:21 PM #737115paramountParticipantYou may want to reconsider leaving Boston would be my advice, even though that’s not what you asked.
It will be expensive to move here among other reasons, and it does get cold at night.
January 31, 2012 at 8:34 PM #737116scaredyclassicParticipantMy brother lives right near Boston and he’s happier than me.
January 31, 2012 at 8:50 PM #737117moneymakerParticipantI think Boston is a bit pricey too from what I’ve heard. Ok I’m thinking OB. A little far from the relatives (could be a good thing) but fun for the kid and not too far from Downtown. Of course you have to be a bit Bohemian, I suppose to really appreciate OB. If you want Bohemian downtown then check out renting @ 1399 9th ave. Sadly no place for the kid to ride his bike, but they do have a pool, just like about every place downtown, not far from the old library either. I personally think raising kids downtown might not be a good idea, but what do i know?
January 31, 2012 at 9:13 PM #737119scaredyclassicParticipantmy kid’s temecula middle school really let us down on the compelling content side today.
man, public schools waste the hell out of kids time…
In today’s local paper I read temecula may ban any future liquor stores. Definitely not a downtown vibe but research has shown liquor stores lead to sin, crime, degradation and drunkenness.
If that doesn’t entice u up to temec I don’t know what will
January 31, 2012 at 9:50 PM #737121sdrealtorParticipantI never liked Larry Bird but Johnny Most was my Dad’s college roomate at Brooklyn College (really..not kidding). If you are actually from Boston that means something to you. If you arent..think Chick Hearn plus royalty

+1,000,000,000,000,000!
How many people who seemed to “have it all” have committed suicide or spent months or years in and out of rehab? They look to me like a rather depressed bunch.
It’s got to suck when you spend your life feeling envious of others and can’t feel perfectly content with what you’ve got.
