You can ask for a 1 year warranty on the heater, if is goes within the year, then the warranty covers you. We just did this, we are buying, the AC units did not work. The house is 11 years old, they did get them working and are giving us 1 year warranty on them.

July 24, 2010 at 10:37 AM #583158anParticipantIt obviously never hurt to ask. The worst they can say is no. Seller paid for my 1 year warranty and I didn’t need to use it, but it’s a good thing to have/request.

I believe SDGE may even do that. However getting an HVAC company out there will provide a more comprehensive inspection and they will be able to back your claim for either a new heater or credit at COE towards a new heater. If there is a carbon monoxide issue then you will have a safety issue and will want to know about that anyways.
